There has been a lot of conversation surrounding Star Trek Discovery's  recent transgender and nonbinary representation. So let's discuss it.

I agree 100% with all of this. While the Disco writers certainly had the best intentions, and did an admiralable job, as well as consulted GLADD and the actors playing the characters, even all of that isn't a replacement for not having a trans/nonbinary writer actually in the room and helping shape the story. It's one of the unfortuantly frutrating things with many writers rooms. There are sadly too few TGNB writers who get in...

Fair. I will say, I don't think this is as bad as the Season 1 events, and I do actual find some beautiful parts of the episode and their representation of trans folks, but I also understand feeling out on it as a whole because of this

I haven't even seen the episode yet, but still I am surprised how much hearing about this... hurt. After all the fanfare about finally! getting actual, proper trans representation, said first trans male character is literally some kind of ghost, representative of another's horrific trauma and loss. And especially after they already did something very similar in season one, the rectification of which never really felt totally natural to me, but I wanted it to happen so much I overlooked a lot of that arc's problems in season two. I'm afraid this broke Discovery for me. I'm sorry, but I can't. I just... can't. Realising they broke it of all things when finally introducing a trans and a non-binary person feels bitter.
