Addressing a Minor Controvery & Asking For Help
Added 2020-06-02 23:10:52 +0000 UTCHey Patrons. So, quick question and notification for everyone, cause a minor controversy has occurred that I think is based out of a misunderstand. So apparently, another YouTuber, or at least someone with a sizable trans-focused Discord server, commented on my video on my recent video on The Last of Us Part 2 video game and the transphobia within the games online community. This YouTuber condemned Naughty Dog for "appropriating trans stories", and I either missed it, it got caught by my comment autofilters, or I accidentally deleted it (or purposefully deleted for some reason or another but forgot I did, though typically the only reason I delete comments is if they are expressly transphobic or insulting to myself or others, so I'd be surprised if that was the case).
Anyways, this person commented again, angry that I had "deleted" their comment, and saying that they are now going to ask people in their trans focused Discord to unsub to my channel calling me a “corporate shill”, and I've noticed a couple distinct exoduses of subscribers in the last hour or so. I attempted to follow up on the comment, and did reply, but found that this person then deleted their comment, and now I can't backtrack it in order to make my opinion clear.
So, a couple things. First, to make my opinion clear, I agree Naughty Dog should condemn the transphobes, especially right now. It is absolutely wrong and the company should be aware of it by now, and they should condemn the transphobes. Though it is also possible that they may just not want to draw attention and give credence to a small but toxic part of their community. I don't fully agree as I believe they should condemn them, but I'd at least understand that mindset if I'm being in the most charitable reading of their lack of statements on it.
As for condemning them for the character, I have yet to see the game, and it's not even confirmed the character is trans so I'm not entirely sure it's fair yet for me to condemn them until I actually play the game. When I play the game and if take issue with the portrayal, then I'll be the first to condemn them, believe me. I hold no specific love for Naughty Dog, especially for their stressful working conditions for their employees. Yet I'm not entirely sure it's appropriate for me to condemn them for transphobia when I have yet to even know if they put a trans person in the game or even intended to talk about trans issues, when it's mostly just transphobic bigots co-opting the conversation to spread transphobia based solely on the appearance of a more muscular looking woman character who we don't know their gender identity or history yet.
Second, I am ok with people unsubbing my channel if they disagree with me or take issue with something I said or find that I did something that offended them. I always and completely understand that, and will wish anyone well as they leave and will also always try to address the concern if I’m able or made aware of it.
Yet, I always get frustrated when stuff like this happens, especially when it comes from what I think is a misunderstanding, because I never defended Naughty Dog, at least, not to my knowledge, nor did I delete the comment knowingly, and even if I did, it would not have because I want to defend Naughty Dog.
So I just want to ask if anyone knows who this person is, and/or if there is any way I am able to make my case known. If anyone has any knowledge and can connect me, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks. Yeah, I hear that, but I don't want to distract from other conversations happening this week with my own stuff. It seems to be over now at least, so hopefully me just posting this dealt with it.
