The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) | Full Reaction

Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man was amazing to see for the first time (pun intended heheh)! There was this restless energy about him. A mix of pain, wit, and angst that makes his Spider-Man feel deeply human.

Tobey's Peter always felt like a kid carrying the weight of the world, his every step shadowed by duty. He is constantly torn between what he owes to others and what he quietly longs for himself. He embodies the truth that being Spider-Man means giving up nearly everything he holds dear. But Garfield's Peter is steered by love. Love is both his burden and his guiding compass. He still wrestles deeply with grief, loss, and desire, but instead of letting those emotions chain him down, he runs with them. His fight is no less heavy, but it burns with a different kind of fire. One lit by connection, devotion, and the absolute refusal to let love be the cost of being a hero.

I actually really love how Garfield's Peter felt more intimate. Tying his origin not just to Uncle Ben's tragedy, but also to the mystery of his parents. It added a huge layer to Spider-Man's lore that I always felt was missing and it made Peter's story feel even more haunted and driven.

Then there's Gwen (I LOVE EMMA STONE). Their relationship gave this version of Spider-Man a pulse that felt so real. A love that I wish I got from Tobey's Peter with MJ. Instead of romance being a side note, it became the very center of Peter's choices. And in the end, this version of the story felt like a web spun from equal parts grief and honest love. Pain doesn't hold him back. It pushes him forward. It makes Garfield's Spider-Man feel like one of the most emotionally charged versions because of that.

See you all in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 next! I can't wait :)

Thank you! I feel like watching these back-to-back really does highlight the true differences between each actor's Spider-Man/Peter. It can be both good and bad in its own ways haha. And yes, the extra backstory about his parents and how he ends up with Aunt May and Uncle Ben adds so much more to his character! Something I did feel missing from Tobey's storyline. I also wholeheartedly agree about Andrew and Emma's chemistry. So sweet and so genuine! And I had no idea they dated IRL until another comment I responded to on this thread just now! No wonder 😱🤣 See you in Part 2 this week!

I think... I agree with you hehe

Nice reaction Kali! I don’t think I’ve watched the two Spider-Man series so close to each other before. It’s interesting to see each actors take on the role. I also like the extra lore we get about Peter Parker’s parents (say that three times fast 😉). And how Peter ended up living with Aunt May and Uncle Ben Also the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone seemed so genuine. I guess that’s why they started dating IRL 😊 Bring on Part 2!

This one is so good! I really love Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man / Peter Parker. And maybe it's just because I think so fondly of him from Hacksaw Ridge haha. Either way, for me this one feels a ton heavier and at times darker than the Tobey trilogy, with some of their more over-the-top comic book vibes. And that's nothing against the first three. I love them for that. But I just really really like how this one flows. Just seeing through Andrew Garfield how Peter becomes Spider-Man and everything that comes with it just hit so hard. The music, especially in the crane scene is so good in this one too! Watching these all back to back, it's been really cool seeing how the story was told in this one. Where we kinda know what's coming at times, but it doesn't take away at all from their impact Emma Stone as Gwen was amazing too! And I really loved the romance arc in this one. Especially with Gwen finding out about Peter's secret so quickly, and the absence of any of Peter's friends, she became his rock (pun intended lol), and I really loved that

Spider-Man is my favorite super hero. Tobey will always be my favorite live action version. but I really love Andrew Garfield's performance. Honestly its more comic accurate than Tobey. From the tech based web shooters to being a cocky little jokester.
