If you ever find that ballad I’m sure the listeners would love to hear it :D Part of me has wanted to experiment with my kink in an RPG setting and it’s hard knowing when is appropriate to go into that sort of thing. I’m terrified of coming across as the fat equivalent of the guy from the “piss world” comic. That being said I think fatness and gaining does have a lot of potential from a story perspective. What would a culture be like that encouraged fatness and how to fat people navigate this world? (Both touched upon in this episode). A lot of my basic character ideas for such a character lately have involved some supernatural force causing the character to grow and either over time or at the start of the game they’ve come to like their new body. I just like the idea of something like that happening to a character and it not being the worst thing in the world for them. Playing such characters does feel comforting in some ways as an idealised version of myself that also knows what it feels like to be how I am now too (if that makes sense). I’m known to overthink these sorts of things but it’s interesting ground to think about nonetheless, let alone broader fat related topics in gaming.

2022-10-27 00:14:50 +0000 UTCThat sounds like a fantastic character! I haven't played Mage yet, but I read the handbook while I was designing my own RPG and it was fascinating, especially how magic works. Similarly, my favorite character I've played (as a player, not a GM) was Belton, the fat character I talked about in the episode, and I would love to play him again. I don't know in what campaign or setting, but he was just too much fun. Imagine that Orson Welles voice booming out over a battlefield just before the lines clash, inspiring the soldiers to give it their all. I even wrote a ballad about that, I wonder where it went... Also wrote an entire epic retelling of our campaign so we could put it on as a play and earn cash in the city... entirely in meter! It was a blast, what a fun character. -Michael PS My apologies for how long this episode took to get out! Initially I kept forgetting to edit it because we recorded so far in advance, and then work hit me in the face with travel, etc. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much, and thank you for supporting us!

2022-10-26 20:43:04 +0000 UTCAbsolutely loved this! Been dying to listen to this episode ever since it was announced. I do have experience playing some fat characters, especially as I was questioning the whole "gaining" thing. My favorite fat character I played was from a short Mage the Ascension campaign named Orvarr Bruun. He was a 6'4" nearly 400lbs bear of a man that served as a responsible "team dad" to the rest of the mage cabal. Long story short he was "the fat kid" growing up and that combined with a grim family situation led him to a life of crime where he got groomed into becoming a Nephandi (super evil mages for those who don't know the lore). He managed to escape from that situation and took steps to work on himself, be around people and rebuild his life. I was very conscious when making him that I didn't want to do any rapid weight gain or transformations as part of his backstory just to avoid kinky cross-pollination. He did like his size overall but he did get very uneasy around doctors and hospitals because of anti-fat bias (particularly when he had to get patched up getting into a knife/gun fight). Also, a fat character who's journey to self-improvement doesn't center around weight loss is also nice. I do really miss playing this character and I hope to play a similar sort of character someday again. I can gush about this one character forever but the takeaway is that I found playing him very affirming and comforting for my identity as a gainer. PS: Love the work from you guys, you're lovely and awesome :)
