The Perilous Art of The Sequel Has Arrived

Indiana Jones and the Perilous Art of The Sequel is now live on ArTorr!

Almost three years ago, I promised a follow-up video to The Awesome Power of Raiders of the Lost Ark, where I would cover all three Indiana Jones sequels in a single video. This approach was decided upon after making the simple observation that the Indiana Jones films are the only sequels of Spielberg's entire filmography (except for The Lost World). Somewhat dissatisfied with how little I had to add to the conversation about Indiana Jones with the Raiders video, I thought this approach would put me on a more interesting path and make for a much more compelling video.

At the start of this year, I finally took the opportunity to make that video. Initially, my only goal was to compare and contrast Lucas and Spielberg's different approaches to all three films; the radically different Temple of Doom, the retreat to safety in The Last Crusade, and a balance in the middle with Crystal Skull that, ironically, ended up being the worst of the bunch. But the deeper my research went, the more I uncovered an intriguing narrative about the intersection between Steven Spielberg's career, personal life, and Indiana Jones that begged to be told. I'm very happy with how I told it in the final video, and hope you were moved by it as much as I was too.

Over the coming weeks, I will be rolling out several goodies and behind-the-scenes posts for this video-- along with my original Raiders video. The pipeline will probably go as follows:

Additionally, I've resolved to stop dragging my ass and get to work on those editing breakdowns I love talking about, but not actually making. These will be episodic videos starting first with exploring tools and techniques in Adobe Premiere, then the making of certain sequences throughout my videos. The pipeline for such is currently as follows--

This series will start up after the Indiana Jones coverage concludes, and will run in the interim between uploads.

Finally, I want to denote all the ways your support over the last few months made a difference in the making of The Perilous Art of the Sequels. Through Patreon, your donations were used for:

If you aren't yet a supporter of my page here on Patreon, even just a dollar makes a difference for me. In exchange, you'll get to see your name in the credits of the next upload, and get regular updates on what videos I'm working on. Otherwise, thank you all for reading, and stay tuned for more on Patreon and on the channel! :)
