The Wedding Singer (1998) ✦ Full-Length Watchalong Reaction

That's totally fair! Thanks for watching along with me.

I joined because I just couldn't stand the thought of watching this movie with all the mid 80s music edited out! Watching this one when it came out was so odd because the period of time it was portraying was less that 15 years prior(1985)-- it seemed so close in history to parody at the time, but them styles had changed so much, it already seemed like such a different world! I'm really glad that you enjoyed this one! I'll see you in a few days for 50 First Dates!

Not a big Adam Sandler fan, but this is maybe my favourite of his comedies. Watching your reaction reminded me of someone I knew professionally through an international listserv who apologized for being absent to the group after going to a wedding that never happened. Apparently the bride was a no-show. We had so many questions about what happens when that actually happens, so I wanted to ask the comment section if you've ever been to a wedding that didn't happen. Obviously, if it's a more personal story, I don't want to pry, but I am genuinely curious.

Finally had the opportunity to watch this today. Absolutely loved your reaction to the soundtrack. It’s one of my favs combined with what I consider a believable enough love story. The only thing that doesn’t work for me is Holly talking Julia and Robbie into a first kiss without first thinking one or both has crush on the other. It seems forced to put them into that position. Still, one of my favorite rom-coms and favorite of Adam Sandler’s movies. I had an extra big smile through the whole movie thanks to your commentary.

Oh that's fun!

I think Carrie Fisher being involved in the writing is the secret weapon why I liked this film so much over Adam Sandler’s other films. From IMDb Trivia: Asked by director Frank Coraci to polish the script, Carrie Fisher spent six months on it, making it her special mission to add "heart and strength and dimension" to the Drew Barrymore character, Julia. Thereafter, when she was asked what her secret sauce was for script doctoring, she'd reply: "Make the women smarter - and the love scenes better."

Perhaps it's just because I didn't grow up watching this one, but while it has its moments, I don't love it like I love 50 First Dates, Happy Gilmore, and Big Daddy, which are my three favorite "traditional" Sandler comedies. For every good joke that really made me laugh, there were a couple that made me cringe. There's at least a couple in 50 that I'd say the same about, and probably some in Big Daddy (which I haven't seen in years), but it also is what it is.

Haha well to be fair, by 90s movie I definitely figured the film was taking place in either 1990 or 1991. Both years still had very heavy 80s influence in them with hairstyles and clothing choices! The movie didn't *feel* mid-80s to me, to be honest!

This is such a great movie. It's definitely the best and my favorite Sandler film. The soundtrack is impeccable and I still listen to it til this day. I find it hilarious that you keep calling this a "90's movie" when it was actually the 80's. I guess it makes sense since Canada is always 10 years behind the US, LOL. So fun to watch-along with you, thanks again for another great reaction!

Oh, that was fun. It's been a few years since my last rewatch. But there was a time when this was in the mix for a regular rewatch. My first watch being when it was released in cinemas. I grew up in the 80s, so the feel of this style of music was the whole first part of my childhood. Then being in my teens during the 90s, the comedy had a certain added nostalgia as well. Those being blended together. (Blended, being the third Adam and Drew film.) Then lovin the height of RomComs, leading out of the 00's they began to peter out somewhat. I used to watch and rewatch a number of them. Maybe even a sickening amount of them. 🤣 Regardless of how predictably tedious the formula can be. Once I hit my 40s, they fell out of favour with me to quite the same degree. But there are those classics and guilty pleasures that I have revisted this decade. It's been a long while since 50 first dates as well. You're bringing the sappy part of me back into full swing. 🤣

"Well I have a microphone and you don't, so you will listen to every damn word I have to say!" "Hey Linda, you're a bitch!" Been SO looking forward to this fun time. After Jo Jo Rabbit the other day, and just finishing Wind River, now. I NEED this!
