Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Many Heads, One Tale [3x08] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

"It's all connected" sounds VERY similar to a line in another show I've watched here. 😉

12/10 episode. I think NOW I can be part of the group of Marvel fans that goes "Pfft, you've ONLY watched the movies? You're missing out!" [Direct link here.]

Please enjoy and I'm looking forward to your comments!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Many Heads, One Tale [3x08] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

So I start off excited about how Powers Boothe [Malick] was on the World Security Council in the first Avengers movie and they kept the actor and character for AoS. Then you go off on a tangent of how a soul might recognize another soul from a different life and I suddenly have to take a few minutes to have a good cry. And it actually is a good cry, it is not a bad cry. There were certain people in my life. And I was happy they were there. The only thing is now they are not. But you said that doesn't have to be the end. Thanks for the existential pep talk. It helps.

Richard Flores

Don't worry, won't be looking at comments!

kaiielle

You can go ahead and watch the bloopers and deleted scenes for the first two seasons. My only advice is avoid the comments sections. It’s been four and a half years since we got the final season. At this point, spoilers are no holds barred.

One thing I forgot to say one other thing. It’s about fans watching the movies and other shows but missing out on this one. I can think of several reactors we should be saying that to: Addie Counts Ashleigh Burton Emme Reacts Natalie Gold And The Perfect Mix (Shoshana grew up in Toronto)

Aldo Gonzales

Yeah I may go hunting on eBay. I'll just have to react to whatever is on YouTube.

kaiielle

Unfortunately, I believe the US (and presumably Canada) only got physical releases of S1-2. Here in the UK we got Blu-rays of S1-5 - I believe these were also released in the rest of Europe and Australia. Japan is the only place that has every season on Blu-ray - took advantage of a Amazon Japan Prime trial during Prime Day last year to import S6/7!

Sean Ellingham

Well that's lame. 😅 Maybe I should just get the Blu-Rays.

kaiielle

VERY fair.

kaiielle

Just as an FYI, the bloopers that can found on YT all look to be shorter than those released on the Blu-rays

Sean Ellingham

I get what you mean - on his own, he doesn't seem dangerous until he starts fighting. The terrifying aspect I feel comes more from having the context of what we've seen him do throughout the show, e.g. tricking his brother into recording an incriminating statement before murdering both him and his parents and burning down their home

Sean Ellingham

I chuckled at your first sentence. Yes, Ward is very scary, but like.. only when he's fighting like that. At least to me. He's a good fighter. Very excited to see what happens from here on out with Hydra. Especially since the Infinity Saga is still ongoing at this point in the timeline. It is a complicated relationship, that's for sure. I'd be terrible at it.

kaiielle

I really am! I'm one of those people that enjoys multi-season shows with more than 10 episodes, so I'm GRATEFUL that there are lots of them I haven't seen. I still enjoy new releases, but shows like this are what TV is supposed to really feel like, imo.

kaiielle

It sure is!

kaiielle

We love double-meaning episode titles!

kaiielle

Yeah, good point actually. That would be super scary! The elephant in the lab is why these kind of relationships can be tough. Not only are they BFFs, but they are also co-workers. I don't think they'll overlook anything, but when the job calls, that is priority. They'll pick things back up later.

kaiielle

Noted!

kaiielle

Thanks! Sometimes clothes get tucked away for months and then I remember they exist and pull them out again. That shirt is one of them. I wore it way more often earlier on the channel/Patreon.

kaiielle

Thanks for that info in the chat! So cool. We hadn't had Leopold spoken in so long (remember I had a HUGE break between Seasons 2 and 3) that I just truly forgot haha. Thank you!

kaiielle

Another slow episode... 😉 Ward taking on Malick's guards at the beginning is a great sequence that really shows off just how scarily capable Ward is at fighting - casually throwing away weapons because he doesn't really need them. Throw in the reminders of what *else* he's capable of through the episode, and he's terrifyingly dangerous. I do find it interesting that he doesn't follow his own advice though - when he recruits Werner von Strucker, he tells him that "if you want someone killed, don't threaten them, just do it", yet with Malick he does just threaten him (TBF, Malick does have actual power, but it's still interesting) The Hydra reveal is so well done - it helps gives a bit more depth to Hydra, rather than them just being "evil Nazi scientists", which is somewhat cliche. Then again, the world domination angle still seems to be there though, so... Coulson and Rosalind does seem to be demonstrating why spies getting involved with spies probably isn't the best idea (as if Hunter and Bobbi haven't demonstrated that enough so far!) - yes, the competitive spy-banter flirting is fun and cute, and they can probably both accept that there are some secrets that each can't reveal, but when the emotional aspects gets involved then things quickly become very complicated. It does seem that they're both understanding enough to be able to potentially move past it though. Hmm. Did anything else happen this episode? Nah, don't think so... (Fitzsimmons!!)

Sean Ellingham

ONE OF US! ONE OF US! I'm so happy knowing that you are enjoying the show so much. It's my personal favorite superhero show of all time and it's a shame so many people abandoned the ship in season 1, because this show is peak fiction. Ian and Elizabeth as Fitz-Simmons are truly the heart of the show. I'll never understand how none of them won any award for this show. They are incredible actors.

Ivan Chicharro

This show is just so fucking good...

Steve Mercier

The deleted scenes are also a fun watch.

Dyrla

Many Heads, One Tale is such a great title for this episode as it both describes the bringing together of all the storylines of the season to date and also the (long) history of Hydra. Loved Hunter's Redcoats and God Save the Queen references. And it's only taken 52 episodes but we finally get our FitzSimmons kiss(es).

Dyrla

When I first saw this episode back when it aired, I was left stunned by the revelation. I literally told myself that it’s all connected. As a viewer it was a fun reveal, but as an agent it’d be very terrifying. What makes it scarier is that this confirms that HYDRA knew about inhumans long before the council in season 2 did. More importantly, can we talk about the elephant in the lab? Fitz and Simmons finally kissed, and this was one of the most tender and heartbreaking scenes of the entire show. Something that really bothered me about it though is that they kissed and were left sad about the circumstances but the next thing you know they almost act like it didn’t happen. I get that the job calls, but they can’t overlook what’s going on either.

Aldo Gonzales

I haven't yet! I could react to S1-S3 bloopers after S3?

kaiielle

I always enjoy your AOS reactions. I can't remember if you reacted to bloopers or not previously? If not, do you plan to? Something you said in your reaction reminded of a certain blooper.

Camryn Brown

First thing I gotta say is omg love you're Top KL its really cute and that purple and pattern combo is great ! Looks like were getting the gang back together with Ward being more involved again back story on the true hydra story so many things and people involved its crazy. I think I got some Fitz in me just not the high IQ lol

Chris Elkins

So… just Leo then? Leopold is a cool name.

Aldo Gonzales

The show connects its plots so well. The Fitzsimmons story seemed so separate from the ATCU plot and that seemed so separate from the Ward Hydra plot but all of this connects together as we get into the midseason finale 3x10. I left the big Agent Carter Easter egg in the Marvel chat that sort of give the answer to that story and who was really behind Agent Thompson death. Ps. People usually call Fitz Leopold when upset with him. Simmons does in season 2. He doesn't like being called Leopold.
