Firefly: Bushwhacked [Ep 3] ✦ Watchalong Reaction & Review

Comments

There's a Bar my friend works at and tomorrow night and they're screening "The Princess Bride!" I'm going to enjoy that, but I wanted to watch this as it's such an intense episode. Also, I'm really looking forward to your reaction to the next one! I like how they have different genres in the same show, one episode Western, Then a Train Heist! then jump scares in a horror! "Tune in next week!" It's nice to have 'caught up', so I can really look forward to the next one!

Totally agree with you! It's a good one.

Outside of the pilot, this is probably my favorite episode of the first third of the series. I love how this episode really just takes its time and does its thing, the show-don't-tell nature of the interrogation sequence, and the lingering threat of the reavers--an enemy we haven't actually seen up-close and personal yet. Also, Jayne's line, "Looked bigger when I couldn't see him" always makes me laugh.

TIL the actual dictionary meaning of the word! Very cool.

Love your reactions. Bushwhacked is my least favorite Firefly episode, but it's still a strong episode with many great parts. I particularly love the interrogation scenes highlighting the personalities of each crew member. Kaylee and Wash's bits are my personal favorites. It's said that the commander's reaction to Wash's comments was just the actor trying not to laugh at Alan Tudyk's ad-libs. From Mirriam-Webster: Bushwhack - verb, transitive; to attack (someone) by surprise from a hidden place; ambush

Yes, I agree with you. People in this fictional world wouldn't fake being scared.

great reaction, and agreed i love the family aspect, and the banter is amazing. ALSO, i have a theory about this episode but im not going to say it yet, im just marking this now so when we get to the appropriate time ill say the theory haha. also, i love how you noted how fast Jayne swings, imo the scared Jayne is the real Jayne, everything else is what he puts on as its all he knows, its how he protects himself, in situations where he has control or thinks Mal has control, in those situations he is calm and a dick, over confident, but when that control is taken away thats when he flips to the scared Jayne like this, like when Mal and Zoe got stuck on the train, suddenly control of the situation was removed and Jayne flipped out. I also think control doesnt have to be without danger, we've seen him be calm in a fight because hes use to that, but the reavers are a whole different thing. it definitely doesn't excuse what he does/says as he can be real gross, but it often explains it i think
