The Warlocks of Armurad - .30 Wiki Wednesday

It is getting warmer here were i live (the Netherlands), so i thought: lets do a hot Wiki Wednesday! And now i don't mean hot like that... i am talking about real fire! So lets start right away with the fire warlocks of Armurad!

The Warlocks of Armurad

The Warlocks of Armurad are a group of old priests who are engaged in the study of ancient magics, above all the powers of fire. Legends go that the first men who settled on the banks of the Afruta were by the spirit Ashur. They live, learn and teach their ways in the mighty Ziggurat of Ashur on the eastern banks of the Afruta river, outside of Armurad.

The first warlocks were teached by the mighty spirit of Ashur himself in the time of heroes -at least this is how the legend goes. At first Ashur was a disturbed and dangerous spirit who attacked the early settlers of the city of Armurad, but eventually the men - with the help of some other spirits - gained the upperhand and defeated Ashur. Instead of killing him they locked him up in an enormous building outside the walls of Armurad. There they forced him to teach them the ways of fire. But the powers of fire were not for everyone to restrain, let alone to control. The first students of Ashur saw the fires and their souls were set on fire - but not in a good way, more in an evil like way. They craved for destruction, power and the sight of burning houses. So was it that the men who defeated Ashur in the first place, now became the villains to all other people surrounding Armurad. All citizens had to bow before the warlocks and pay tribute to them. Punishment for not paying the tributes was a quick, firey death. But in the end there pride took control over them. They thought they no longer needed the help of Ashur, so they let him free.

But were the men became violent, it was Ashur who became enlightened in the sight of evil men. He now saw that the evil men of Armurad imitated him. The men had teached him how to spoke - during their years of training - and his mind wasn't always filled with the thoughts of destruction anymore. He felt sorry for the people of Armurad who were now under the tyranny of the now known "Warlocks of Armurad".

Eventually Ashur rallied the free men of Armurad and surrounding cities and they destroyed and killed all the rogue warlocks of Armurad. Ashur teached a new group of Armuradians the ways of fire, but now in a good way. Instead of destruction, he learned how to use the power of fire for good. Ashur also showed them were to build a holy temple were future generations could be learned the ways of fire, which became to know as the Ziggurat of Ashur (it is said it is the oldest structure in the world which is still standing). After many years, Ashur left the world during the "Ascension" at the end of the "Age of Heroes".

Not all the men who live in and around the temple in recent days however are warlocks. Becoming a warlocks - and controlling the element of fire - takes most men a lifetime, if not longer. The average age of a warlock is well above sixty years old. So the most people you see inside and outside the temple are actually the guards of Ashur - an organization tasked by the warlocks to keep the temple clean, tidy, and safe. You will also see a lot of citizens and nobles from Armurad visiting the temple to honor Ashur - and to have a chat ofcourse.
