The Brear (The Behar) Part 4 - .29 Wiki Wednesday

Hi everyone,

I finally finished the story of the First Rebellion of the Brear! We aren't yet on the end of the story - to be honest the rebellion hasn't even started - but all Wiki Wednesdays about this rebellion have been finished and in the next following weeks you will read about * SPOILER ALERT* the diminish of Vortisar "The Unfair" *SPOILER ALERT*.

For the people who jumped in later, or just want a quick refreshment: We left of at the court of the Brass' Hags who decided Makaror was right and that Vortisar "The Unfair" should backoff. Vortisar - unfair as he was - decided to wipe his butt with this verdict. So now we have the forces of the northern Hides of the Brear marching to the south. (Read here for the entire story)

The Betrayal Of Cecilos

Makaror was the first to set in action, he knew the gods were on his side but he also knew the most people were on the side of Vortisar . He himself could muster an army of three thousand men, but he knew Vortisar could easily muster around four thousand which could give him an advantage in battle. He set out the first strike when he marched with his army to the city of Zolkar which was in the center of Breasia. The city lay in a valley and was not easily defended by the people loyal to Vortisar. The elders of the city therefor decided to surrender to the incoming army of Vortisar instead of being pillaged. At this moment the Brass Hags did not actively support any of the two parties, but instead they called for peace between the Brear because it was the Erosians which they should call their enemy.

Vortisar decided not to attack the armies of Makaror in the northern regions, he instead waited until the army would stand before the gates of Tracabra. Here numerical strength would have the best advantage. The only problem with this strategy was that Makaror foraged the lands between the city of Zolkar and Tracabra, and a huge swath of refugees would come to the city of Tracabra to seek refugee. Another advantage was the seeming weakness of Vortisar, something which isn’t taken lightly in Brear culture, so it happened that some of Vortisars warbrothers swayed to the other side. Vortisar also knew most of his own people deemed the outcome of the Brass’ Hags court just, and they could possibly join Makaror.

Cecilos in the meantime informed the erosian senate of the upcoming war in Breasia between the barbarians. He also stated that there wouldn’t be any problems for the Erosians and that he even started mining the gold from the Braesian gold mines in the Hide of Ottoram. The senate cheered because of the influx of new gold and they simply chose to ignore the upcoming war between the Breasians - they didn’t even voted about it because they saw it as non important. 

The cunning Cecilos even managed to send a message to the camp of Makaror - which even arrived in time - that the Erosian senate saw no need to interfere between the warring parties. The last fear of Makaror was from the table (he knew of the friendship between Vortisar and Cecilos), and he knew he had a change of winning the war.

But Makaror wasn’t the only one to the cunning words of Cecilos. A spy in the camp of Makaror relayed the information to Vortisar and Vortisar knew he was betrayed. In a fit of madness he ordered his warbrother Otteram to cleanse his Hide from the erosian influence. Vortisar knew he was now between fires, because Cecilos wouldn’t help him out, and he could even attack him in the back. Vortisar - without a single arrow being fired - was now on the losing side of the war, which hadn’t even started.
