Hi everyone,
Heey wait a minute! This isn't the story of the Brear Barbarians where we were waiting for! No- no- i know. I needed a short break because the story of the Brear was getting a little bloated so i needed a little bit more time to extract that story from my scatterbrain. So why not talk about some green tattooed shamans from the northern lands of Mon Ursa? The Acenii of course!
We already did a Wiki Wednesday about them a while ago but the wanderers of the Valley need a little bit more background don't you think? For the people who are unaware of the Acenii: They are a people living north of the Erosian realm in a lush, foresy area which are simple called the lands of the Acenii.
So now a little bit more about the religious side of life and their deep connection with nature and plants! Are you going to read along?
--------------------------------------------
Even if the Acenii do not have large marble temples on high hills for their gods, that certainly does not mean that these people have no gods. On the contrary! The Acenii worship many nature gods and spirits, the main worshipers of which are the shamans of the tribe. These shamans - who also earn good money as distributors of medicines - are known for their deep connection with nature. In most villages and towns you will only find one shaman, but in larger cities such as Prervonia, Inivicé or Alalaun you sometimes have dozens of shamans offering their services.
Almost every village in the lands of the Acenii has its own Shaman who serves as an advisor to the local Attaman (leader), helping him with advice when necessary or calling on the gods for even better advice. This is often done through the use - read intake - of all kinds of plants and herbs. The countries of the Acenii are known far and wide as THE place where the most special herbs grow, some examples of which are: The Yellow Spotted Aconite, The Bear Truffle, Ordovicion, Cetotam and Kosté weed. All these herbs have magical and strength-enhancing effects. For example, Ordovicion is pounded and cut and mixed with other herbs to make an elixir that improves your eyesight for an entire day named the Elixer of Ordovo.
The knowledge about these herbs is passed on by the shamans through an oral tradition, even though a few books have been known since the introduction of writing. One of the most famous books, however, was written by the Erosian scholar Chtorisios.
Often shamans are bound to the same city or at least the same region all their lives, but there are also some shamans who see the deep forests and hills of the acenii as their home.
There are also many legends and myths about the mysterious shamans. A well-known story is, for example, the story of Ordovo who tried to capture the nature spirit Arctil, but was opposed by the god Avidice. Ordovo was also the namesake of the Elixir of Ordovo. Eventually he became friends with Arctil and he lived longer than any other human had ever lived. It is said that Arctil wept so loudly on the day Ordovo died that the River Tomlos overflowed its banks and flooded the lands.
