Thoughts from me on what's next / Momo book 4 etc
Added 2024-01-04 12:14:59 +0000 UTCHey there!
So, Momo Book 3 is done! I honestly can't believe it. That book really put me through the ringer as a writer. In a good way, mostly. But it also taught me a lot. I really hope you all enjoyed it.
section I: re: book 3 ending & book 4
First I'm going to quickly address the ending. If you're someone who is a big fan of stat progression (this is a prog fantasy after all!) I want to make it clear that Momo has not suffered a permanent regression. She just needs to deal with the consequences of her overexertion, and I hope to do that in a very creative way of letting her explore a different type of strength (pun intended) - that will end up tying into her Nether magic, and only prove to make her more powerful in the long run.
Also, if you're especially scared of swordstuff taking up too much time, I can tell you that the swordfighting itself will still be inherently very magical and Nether based - and it will by no means be her only style in this book. It is merely how it begins. As Book 4 is the last in the series, I intend to have it culminate all of her powers into a showstopping creation that honors her progression both magically and as a character.
Of course, this is not a turn of events everyone can be happy with. I am well-aware that making a character 'lose' power, even temporarily, is a pretty big no-no in progfantasy. I totally get that. For me, Momo (the series) has always, above all else, been about Momo as a character. Like many of you, what I fell in love was not just the premise of Momo's rise to power, but Momo herself, and watching her grow from someone who couldn't even say her own name to the absolute badass she is now. That said, that requires that I provide her with adequate challenges that force her to deal with the parts of herself she has yet to acknowledge. She's taken her powers for granted, been too controlled by the expectations of others, and she's going to rise like a phoenix when she realizes what she has to lose.
It's finally time for her to face the celestial music once and for all: meeting Kyros, freeing Morgana, 1v1ing MallMart Momo to see whose stronger (lol), and much, much more.
section II: schedule and akemi
Many of you have expressed you are excited about my other new series, Akemi. I am too. As such, I want to give it the try it deserves on Royal Road. So I'm going to do a bit of a schedule split for the next month, just to see how things go. That means 50% output will be Momo Book 4, and 50% will be Akemi. Based on how it does on RR, that might temporarily shift up or down. If you have any questions, ask away. My ears are open about this schedule.
section III: thank you
As always, thank you so much for your patronage. I don't take it for granted, and I listen seriously to every single comment you guys leave, every Discord message you send, etc. Thinking about how to make my stories better so that you guys have the best possible content coming to you keeps me up at night. Thank you for keeping me motivated, and for loving Momo the way you do. Morgana's Dawn forever.

I vote for Momo breaking the system and pulling out Goddess Momo. Or Old Cat Lady Momo with bad vision and bad hearing. Maybe a bit senile too.

2024-01-05 00:05:46 +0000 UTCI don’t mind depowering if it’s clear it’s a limited time thing. And I mean given Momo’s Momo-ness, I doubt the depowering will have any real effect. She’s stumble further into casting spells without actually using mana or some oddity.

2024-01-05 00:05:17 +0000 UTCI am relieved that Momo stuck to her principles to spare Nia. I also appreciated that she suffered serious consequences for overexerting herself in order to save her life. The chapters were written well, so I think your potentially risky move to temporarily weaken Momo paid off. Finally, I can’t wait for more MallMart Momo! Those Momo squared chapters were my favorite!
