According to legend, Zeus decided to make his son Hercules, born of the mortal woman Alcmene, immortal. He placed Hercules on sleeping wife Hera so that Hercules would drink the divine milk. Hera, waking up, saw she was not feeding her own child, and pushed him away from her.
A jet of milk splashed from the breast of the goddess turned into the Milky Way.
