Dream Therapy 3 Engine is Ready! DT2 final update coming soon!

Hello,

The final update of Dream Therapy 2 isn't ready yet, as I’ve been working on fixing the game engine to be used in the third chapter. Basically, I feel that now is a good time to improve on the current methods I use, since I haven’t been fully happy with many things in the first two installments of the game.

What needs to be improved:

The game only support a single language (English).
The game is in HD resolution (2K and 4K not supported).
Game size gets too big too fast (lots of images needed for repeat of close ups and discussions).
Renders take a long time to create (again, design of the scene and poses is to blame).
Lack of gameplay mechanisms and feedback (only get a ‘score’ at the end of the scene is not enough).

How it will be fixed in the next chapter:

Translations sheets have been designed, so anyone who wants to have a version in another language can participate (it’s basically a TXT file to translate for each language).
Use pre-made renders of characters, like a visual novel. This provides for many more emotions and can be animated for more dynamism, and those can be made with 4K in mind. Plus, this will let me focus on the animations and story, rather than on rendering the character speeches.
The image files will be done with webp, to minimize the file sizes.
Provide feedback on the player choices during the scene. This will be done with a ‘Score’ counter and an ‘Emotion’ counter which will force the player to think about the choices made. I’m thinking of having some naughty content be unlocked only if you manage to have a high enough score.

The new engine is pretty much ready!

As of now, I have finished the new engine changes, so I’m happy to say that I’ll be able to create more content in the future, faster and with higher quality. I have included a few screenshots showing what it will look like.

As always, let me know what you think, and I’m looking forward to hearing from some among you interested by having the next chapter in another language (French is already covered).
