2024-09-22 17:03:40 +0000 UTCI agree with the comment above, I do not think it's always necessary to subvert expectations nor "up" the stakes in some way every time. Eventually with any medium you reach a point of no return and going beyond that can lose the audience that appreciated the content in the first place. Kinda like an anime that goes on for way too long and the power levels get ridiculous and confusing. I think there's a way to keep things going on for a long time without always searching for "more" than last time, yet it's still fresh and interesting too. For example, videos like Wasp Nest Wedding are one of my favorites even though you said you can't do characters like the Priest anymore because it's been done + people know you aren't one.

2024-09-11 01:43:24 +0000 UTCcan’t find the exact quote but i did want to validate your position as an “internet comedian” a bit - i honestly think using any platform/stepping stone to get to where you want to be is how you make it in the industry. social media, at this point in time is honestly just the modern replacement for the “personal assistant to Steven spielberg” pipeline! it’s more efficient in my personal opinion and it almost guarantees you your own cultivated audience as opposed to HOPING you’ll climb the ladder as a PA. there are so, so many unpredictables with following that formula. I’m sure you’ve heard the horror stories of trying to make it in the industry the traditional way. I’d cut yourself some slack because I think you’re doing yourself a favor. It kind of plays into your discussion of the pandemic affecting the people you were jealous of in California. I’d like to believe that the butterfly effect is real, and all the choices we are making are going to play a part in the final end product (WHEN not if WHEN we are successful and happy)! Even though you might kind of be upset with the nonsensical, cesspool of replies on Twitter/Youtube/IG (hopefully not discord ily) right now, it’s not going to stay that way forever. Like you said, it’s kind of a GOOD thing to have the general horrible Twitter users responding to your posts. That means you’re being SEEN. Exposure is everything. With every few hundred bs replies, there’s probably 1 or 2 people actually looking into your account, subbing to the Patreon, and inevitably becoming long time supporters. Anyways, man I’m super fucking proud of you. You’re hilarious, hard-working, and genuinely just seem like such a good guy. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart, I’m so happy to see someone that deserves success get it. Can’t wait to keep supporting you, and I’m so grateful you’re here. So grateful I am here, too. ❤️

I think a lot of us have had a moment in our lives where we sort of realize our hopes and dreams aren't going to work out the way we dreamed they would. I'm in that phase right now of (metaphorically) editing photos on restaurant menus and wedding photos lol. It's inspiring. Thank you for specifying you weren't a theater kid LOL

They also don't know what they're actually doing or what you really represent as far as archetypes go. I appreciate that you're humble, Dan. I've found that the most genius people tend to be overly humble though. I guess it's better than being full of oneself. But I think it's unfortunate sometimes because they even seem to border on self-loathing in a lot of cases. Just my opinion. You'll definitely look back on this era from a "better" (more popularity/fame) place with a sense of nostalgia. It'll be bittersweet for sure. You'll miss it in a lot of ways. That's just how life is, happens every time.

They had also used a form of body cam as a goof, but you can tell it's fake. I think also the content you create is in a "boy cries wolf" situation where it is saturated with satire, they have to believe this bodycam footage must be part of the bit. The body cam short was a masterpiece btw!!! I know you said it took 3 weeks to do it, but I came out really great and captured the vibe perfectly.
