Red Faced Guy - Calm Version

Sorry I accidentally recorded this in HDR so the color is all messed up on here.

Settling upon the final video (that ended up being very short) was a bit of a process this morning. The reason I didn't end up posting the I'm Green video was because I liked it a lot but I wasn't sure I wanted to quite commit to it right now because it is as many of you said very "whimsical," and "fantasy" oriented.

But after experimenting with that weird green look, which was basically just the green make up + Vaseline + lotion + sweating, I wanted to try the same thing again but this time with red-- because that seemed more grounded and also made sense after the cheese face mask.

I basically did the red look on my face but I had no idea what to do after that. I figured I would just make a longer video YouTube video like the one you see above.

But I sort of got into a situation where I kept doing it and realized it kind of wasn't about anything. No that that's ever stopped me before, but something didn't feel right and it felt like I was wasting the look. Similarly to the cheese video, it seemed like the shock of the initial look would wear off after a few seconds, and then you're just left with 9 minutes of a boring video where nothing happens.

So then I tried it a few times turning up the energy a bit. At this point I was starting to get frustrated because nothing was working and I couldn't figure out what to say. Then I thought, maybe this wants to be a short form video, and that's why it's not working.

Then I was like, what if instead of being mildly annoyed by this, I am in excruciating pain. So I did a few takes of the short version screaming, starting at first by saying things like, "Help me, why is my face red, it hurts, etc." But that didn't feel right either. And then I thought, I hate everything I'm saying and nothing I'm saying feels right, so why don't I just not say anything.

Then it started to click. I have another take of the short version I will upload after this.

Dan is formidably brilliant and he's really just being honest... that's what blows my mind about the whole thing. Most of the time he's just shamelessly saying what we're all thinking. The relatability of his content just demonstrates how outrageous humanity truly is.

Allergic reaction to a shampoo? Sir, you are BALD.

This is one of my favorite arcs yet. There are SO many pieces that go into itβ€”the extremely uncanny makeup, the healthcare system, the self diagnosis of cancer, the strange holistic medicine, Addie's part in all of it. I have to be irony-poisoned now and say that same exact thing happened to my face when I used Neutrogena HydroBoost moisturizer. Stay away from it, Dan!!!

I get why you decided to go with the short-form video, just as an aside, the chronic illness stuff in this one was very relatableβ€”with doctors being clueless but also somehow dismissive, people not realizing how nice it is that they don’t feel like shit every day, and them giving well-meaning but unhelpful/uneducated advice. If (red face aside) that is stuff you’re dealing with, I hope tomorrow is even just a bit easier.

I think it's nice to mix it up, I love long videos and the short ones too! Sometimes a short vid works best
