How to Taste Whiskey: $12 Bottle vs $500 Bottle

Let's discuss some professional techniques for assessing the flavor and character of your whiskey, whether it's a $12 bottle of corn whiskey or a $500 rye aged 17 years. I also discuss the proper glass to use and the science behind why it works best.

Similarly, I have 4 rums: a blanco, a 7-year aged, a solera, and a navy strength. Again, pairing cocktails against each type would be interesting.

I have three-plus types of gin: a genever, an Old Tom, and two (London) dry's but with different flavor profile. A comparison of the differences between them, and your call on favorite cocktails for each type, would be a fun show.

I've got a Hibiki 17 Year, and a St. George 35th anniversary (unopened!) which are my two most interesting bottles. That Boss Hog is tempting.

When it comes to doing taste comparisons of other spirits, it would be nice to see some comparisons of port, sherry, and Madeira. Maybe a series about aperitifs and digestifs since Thanksgiving is coming up and appropriate dessert pairings?
