It's time to reveal the next big theme I am working on. Boys and girls ... we are going to the north way back in time ... when Vikings and Saxons clashed and brought turmoil to the lands.
Inspired by the historical and architectural roots, I want to make a series of buildings that can be used in that historical context but also - with the help of optional ornaments - in a wide range of fantasy settings!
For my usual village builder approach I plan to make three house types. The "triangle" shaped house you see at the sides of the sketch. A traditional house type and then a large chieftains long house (in the middle). The latter will have a couple of optional elements, like extending pieces to the long and short sides and up on top.
Texturing-wise I will focus on the two main themes: Viking wood ornament and Saxon wattle-and-daub wall types. That way I can reuse the same geometry and with use ornaments create different looking villages.
For the long house - if there is enough interest - I have plans for a second version that will allow for even more additions, like a round-going veranda type attachment as seen in larger Viking buildings.
And to round it all up, I plan to make some wall/tower/gate elements for defensive structures.
I hope you are as excited as I am about this theme and I look forward to spending some time on this era :)
