[STATUS] - May 2017 (Updated May 31st, 2017 PM)

(Update May 31st, 2017 PM)

Shooting some product shots of the Fire Piston, aiming for a limited quantity release to Patrons later this evening to test the order process.

 (Update May 31st, 2017 AM)

Creating animations and overlay graphics for BSC Ep 4 - The PC will be working hard today!

 ----------------------

(Update May 30th, 2017)

Working on the BSC drawings this morning - for interest,  A pdf of  the gear train schematic can be found here . Lots of information to squeeze into an A4 page, how on earth do watchmakers document their devices?

----------------------

Hey Folks,

There's a lot of behind the scenes activity that never gets mentioned in a video, and I figure you might be interested in knowing what I'm up to between releases. I'd also like to keep you better informed on a day to day basis, even if it's just a line of text telling you what I'm up to today, or where I'm at with the next video.

So from today I'll be putting up a regular "status" post on Patreon. This post will be where you can go to find out what I'm working on at any given time in between video releases.

I'll give these posts a [STATUS] tag in the title, so you can distinguish them from the video posts, and I'll update the post as I move through different stages of a video, prototyping, or whatever else I'm working on at the time. (Patreon doesn't have a 'sticky' function for posts, so I'll do a new status post to kick off each month)

For now, this is what I've been up to for the last 2 weeks of May, 2017:

Next Month's Planned Activity:

As always, be sure to leave me any questions, comments or suggestions below.

Cheers,

Chris.

Ha! So True! Cheers mate :)

This I love. I'm dying for updates but I know that every minute you spend responding is a minute farther out for the next video! Now back to work, you!

Ha ha! Awesome Paul! I'm so looking forward to the day when the whole wearable tech thing really comes of age, so I can get the video making part down faster! So often I'm looking at the cut and thinking, "If only I could just record EXACTLY what I am actually seeing, this would all be a piece of cake..." Until then, happy to talk about any and all of it with you Paul :) The production run of the Fire Piston has been terrific. Much guidance and wise counsel from John Saunders over at NYCCNC (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/saunixcomp)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/user/saunixcomp)</a> on how to successfully interact with a pro machine shop and get the results you want.

This was my journey reading this Oh YAY a new click spring post WHAT no video :( Holy crap Chris is a busy man, is this your fulltime job now or still classified as "fun" YAY lots of updates planned A CLICKSPRING fire piston - WHERE IS THE BUY IT NOW BUTTON Really nice to see this type of update, you assume this amount of work is being done but really interesting to read about it in more detail. Like other's I'd love to see much more. How you do your research, how to use the CAD software. How you convert paper plans to 3d CAD models. How you start the process of having things made as a production run. Look forward to the next update and buying a fire piston.

C or D would be wonderful! I can get it all into A4 if I'm economical with the layout, but this one has definitely been a challenge because its quite tightly packed. I have a few other devices in the works for future projects that will definitely require a re-think of how I publish (and how Patrons can readily print) the drawings. Cheers mate :)

I don't mind the wait at all Chris. Some of your videos have details I end up going back and watching again. As to how watchmakers get all that detail on one page, they don't more often than not. I had the fortune to visit a shop where they repaired flight computers. They were essentially electro/mechanical clocks back then. The plans were on either C (17" x 22") or D (22" x 34") paper (blue print) and there would be two or three sheets for each model.

Thanks mate :)

Awesome to hear that mate - I should have the ordering side of things ready to go in a few days :)

Great to hear about everything happening. This projects are some of the best things on the web and are worth the wait.

Thanks for the update Chris. Appreciated. Looking forward to the next video, and I'll take a fire piston. It's BBQ season :-)

Andrew Larking

Thank you mate!

Thank you for the updates Chris, love your videos and projects! Keep them up! Cheers

Still deciding on that, there are a few open items I need to consider before setting the price. One thing that really shocked me was that 2 of the Beta test packages seem to have gone missing in the USPS service - I'd hate to think that's a typical strike rate!

Is there a ball park figure on how much this would cost? Because like the above comment, take my money as well.!!

Hey Nikolaos, yes I have been working on a production version of the fire piston over the last few months to offer it for sale. Its a collaboration between myself and John over at NYCCNC, more details once I get the BSC Ep #4 out the door :)

Looking forward!!!

....that's kinda disgusting but at least now I know where everything that I put in my 'forward moving' northern-hemisphere-toilet comes out lmao. I'm sorry, southern hemisphere. ;D

Timeyy

Thank you for the update Chris. Keep up the good work! One question: "Collating feedback from Beta testers of the soon to be released production version of the Clickspring Fire Piston": I missed this one. Does it mean that there will be a buyable product CS Fire piston?

Time moves backwards in the Southern Hemisphere, just like toilets.

Alex
