Hi Chris I'm new to your videos and very good they are and informative did you ever release plans for the clock as i seem to be able to get to part 15 only and And they stop at the finger plate tool/

Watching this wrap-up video, I can only say "breathtaking"! Just curious as to how many hours total you have invested in building, video taking/editing, and tool making to complete this artful MASTERPIECE? I stand in awe of your patience, skill and craftsmanship and I deeply thank you for sharing your journey with us. I have learned SO MUCH! God Bless you and yours.

Bill Yester

AWESOME!

Alan Reinhart

Ah that makes sense, I could use tougher wood like African blackwood but I know that gold is cheaper than this wood. Blackwood is extremely stiff and strong. Oh well I guess just have to be patient then till I get a lathe. Any chance of a little help in suggestions of a decent mini lathe and where I can putchase O1 steel and brass.

Salko Safic

The frame will likely warp under the mainspring strain if made to the same dimensions using wood. I would also expect an unacceptable amount of flex due to environmental changes from humidity etc. All of this leads to pivot and depthing misalignment, which in turn is enough to stop the clock. All wood construction clocks are designed to accommodate the shortcomings of wood, this design is intended to be made from brass.

Clickspring

Thanks Chris for link, but why don't you think it would work?

Salko Safic

You can find the plans here: <a href="http://www.clockmaking-brass.co.uk/clock_construction_books.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">http://www.clockmaking-brass.co.uk/clock_construction_books.html</a> scroll down t the "Large Wheel Skeleton Clock" 17th from the top. I would not advise proceeding with construction of this design using wood - it will likely not function. I would be inclined to go with one of the designs by woodworkers that are intended to be made from wood. Cheers :)

I hope some time this year to tackle this project but since I don't have any metal working skills yet but have woodworking skills I will make it out of timber. I know the very first clocks were made out of timber but we'll see if mine does. Thanks for the link to where you purchased the plans from but for the life of me I can't seem to find that particular clock. Can you tell me the name of that clock.

Salko Safic

I love it! I will echo what some other users are saying and mention that I would really love to see some footage of the clock running. There is not much of the fully assembled clock to be seen in the last couple videos. Thanks!

Robert Sindorf

Fantastic editing as always. Before you completely leave the clock project maybe do one last video of your mistakes and scrapped parts, and what you learned from each. That is unless you are as perfect as the videos make you look : )

Beautiful montage, keep up the great work

Eric Vincent

fantastic video looking forward to the next project

What was the most technically challenging piece to make?

Another great video. You knew we needed another :) I saw some footage in there that I must have missed. I'll have to start again to make sure I didn't miss any.

James Holbrook

Wow...just wow. Seeing it all together like that brings home the scope of the project, the excellence of execution, and the quality of the presentation. You've set the bar pretty high for the next project and I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us. I think it's fair to say that you've raised standards all across the net for what it takes to do a first rate job on a channel like yours.

Tom Colson

Man, that was calming as hell. I'd love to know the titles of the music you used, if you don't mind.

Stronghold Armory

A captivating, beautiful edit to all of your amazing work on this incredible journey, Chris. I was once again reminded of all the beautiful and useful tools you made and shared with us along the way and thank you for all the learning. Like so many others I am so very grateful to be able to have witnessed the care, craftsmanship, ingenuity in the art of making a magnificent clock in this project and presented in almost flawless videography. It is sad this chapter is over, but it is very satisfying to know that it is saved in all it's glory in a beautiful format for generations to come as the clock itself will last. Best of the Best to you, Chris and Thank You for the wonderful ride! ~PJ

PJ

I think after seeing it all happen in a short span of time, the chapter ring is the most satisfying part for me. Such a clean final look. Great work as always Chris, looking forward to what you have in store!

Charles Skinner

Absolutely beautiful! The camera work is almost as beautiful as the clock itself. Had you considered a bell jar before you made the base? They always strike me as an elegant way to display objects with a lot of "verticality". It would take some care to lift it off and replace for winding, but it would give a dust-free 360˚ view.

Peter W. Meek

As usual, your work and results simply amaze me. You are the reason I bought a lathe ('47 southbend 9") and while I'm still churning out buckets of useless trinkets in my training phase, one day soon........ Best wishes on your next project, can't wait to see what it is.

Eric Hobbs

Yes very strange! I've been keeping all of the parts in a large draw in the shop, its all empty now, ready for the next project! - Re final polish, I've gone the full traditional route, it will get old gracefully with a beautiful patina :)

Clickspring

Awesome job Chris! Great to see it all in one go and to be reminded of all the fun parts you had to accomplish. It must be strange to have finally completed it all. With the final polished brass, did you put any sort of protective coating on it, or are you looking for it to mellow with age?

Rob C

Its been an emotional few weeks wrapping this one up!

Clickspring

I cried.

Cheers Scott, more info on Sunday morning :)

Clickspring

Cheers Greg, very much appreciate your support :)

I know exactly what you mean Tristan - its still so very odd to see it sitting in its cabinet, I can't quite get used to the idea that there is nothing left to do to it! Yes definitely some more small scale woodworking in the next YouTube project, and I expect to have to do some basic wooden pattern making for some of the casting projects that I have lined up for next year. Cheers mate :)

Clickspring

I still haven't mentally accepted the fact that the project is complete. Really wonderful series in every regard. Looking forward to the next project! Are you planning on doing any more wood working related video's/projects? I loved the one you did on French Polishing.

Tristan Sobey

What a fantastic end to a long, wonderful and captivating project. I eagerly await what you have in store for the future.

Gregory Acton

Chris, this is a great way to end the project. I still go back and watch some of the videos as they are so interesting. Can't wait for the info on the new project. All the best.

Scott Clausen

Thank you Dominick! Currently its keeping within about 30 seconds per week. It really needs to run for a lot longer, through some more seasonal changes to get a better idea of how the silk suspension will behave, but given that it has no temperature compensation, no fusee, a silk suspension and a recoil escapement its performance so far is very good. As for longevity, its in a dedicated cabinet, completely airtight and dust free. For as long as we have it, it will be well looked after :)

Clickspring

Yes wifey had seen it all of the way through, but its one thing to see it in the shop and another thing all together to see it in her new cabinet - she's very pleased :)

Clickspring

Thanks for the amazing recap to the beautiful project. Had the wife seen the progress before you delivered it to her? What was her reaction? Cheers!

Ron Hunn

Congratulations on the completion of this beautiful project! I'm eager to see what you come up with next. Now that the clock is complete, one question I have is: What steps did you take to increase the accuracy and longevity of the clock? You indicated that the first test run was promisingly accurate, but the clock wouldn't stay in time for long without more adjustment.

Cheers Kirk :)

Clickspring

Amazing. Nothing else to describe it.

Thank you very much Jess - I will be releasing more info on the next project on Sunday morning :)

Clickspring

Me too - I'm kinda hoping that the different format of the video will get it out under some different playlists, maybe drag in some new viewers that have never considered machining before. I've flagged it as a music video, and used a completely new set of keywords, so we'll see what happens when we set it live next week :)

Clickspring

What a great way to re-live what has taken you such massive time to complete. I hope anyone that sees this realizes the depth and pleasure they can get from watching the process like we have

Steven Bierlink

Awesome Chris. If I had to pick out some favorite things about this build I'd say other than your fantastic accent and voice overs.... all the small detailed and delicate pieces. Making your own screws and then polishing them to a mirror and blueing them is something I had never seen before. Your form tools are second to none. Reliving all of the hand sanding/filing you did shows such a huge dedication and high level of patience. Congratulations again Chris. Huge accomplishment... and really looking forward to more projects.
