2024-04-17 01:39:18 +0000 UTCThis is the point that I think most people come to terms with the scale of the world Oda has been building up to this point. East Blue and the Alabasta saga seemed like huge building blocks to a bigger story. The pacing never helps these arcs tell the story they want to in an animated weekly release year round. Understand how hard the animators and Oda had to work to pump these chapters out and build the story on the fly. Most authors could never attempt such a large project while on a strict deadline schedule. A lot of the power scaling wasn't fully fleshed out, but every ability you see is relevant and part of a larger working model of the power system of the world. I think a lot of people think it becomes too slow to watch when you know all the cool things going on in the current show, but the payout is well worth the investment. Even I regret watching it too fast during covid because waiting for weekly release now is awful. I've decided at this point to stop watching so I can just do a whole arc in one sitting because the pacing is so awful it feels like you need 3 episodes to get anywhere. I love that you guys are taking your time to digest the story and grow with the crew. Marvin has to have some of the most lowkey anime story sense in the world; I don't doubt you and Oda catch up on a weekends. Maverick undoubtedly the most peak power scaling understanding and raw reaction king. Love your guys' work! keep pushing, take it easy, much love. Oh and yeah Luffy's the protagonist but to me One Piece is really a history documentary about a fantasy world. You get little bits of info about what really happened and how the world really works. That's just as strong of a driving narrative point as Luffy becoming the king of the pirates . Truly some amazing writing.
