Folder layouts
Added 2021-09-14 14:00:07 +0000 UTCHey guys, I wanted to get your opinion of folder layouts from past releases and moving forward. So far I've been breaking them down by parts, heads, bodies, weapons, ext ext but I can see how this can get overwhelming with larger kits, like the space pirate ships, or for those who want to build the minis just like the pictures so I had a few ideas. As well as only including Left sided stls, which you mirror on the x to get right hands, but leaves odd situations like the Wracked Acolyte, which comes with a left and right hand.
So here are my 3 ideas of how we can move forward I would love to hear your opinion on these / if you have ideas of your own or from other designers that you like, please please let me know, always looking to make printing these easier for you all.
I don't have a poll end date for this as it's more to give me an idea of how you guys are enjoying the layout so far / for future releases.
Thanks so much! I'll have a first look at some of the october minis up soon enough :D

Hey Stefan! While I 100% agree, the shear nature of the amount of guns and accessories these minis have make it much harder to make full minis, but I am now breaking them down by folder so at least it makes it easier to just place and print, my earlier kits were much broader in what weapons / accessories would go with what body
2021-10-22 17:46:23 +0000 UTCI would love to have complete minis It makes it so much easier to paint them, without the hassle of glueing them together and printingt lots of small parts.
2021-10-22 14:16:57 +0000 UTChahahah yeah the hands are pretty obvious, but I agree, I was looking at this vehicle kit and it comes with so many parts, i can see how people can get lost. I'll take some time and add some names to the breakdowns just to help out
2021-09-15 19:21:01 +0000 UTCI went for option 3, but option 1 is probably more appropriate for complicated models like vehicles with multiple parts. If someone can't figure out where a hand goes on a model, maybe a diagram won't help them.

2021-09-15 17:48:33 +0000 UTCTotally agree, thanks Steve!
2021-09-15 06:52:00 +0000 UTCOption 1 for me. I realise it's creating more work for you, but it'd be extremely helpful. When you've got several terabytes of STLs it's nice to have everything in order of common sense. A little exploded JPEG would be nice to add on to a sale listing too. It's something I've always appreciated in the past when I've been buying 3rd party stuff.

2021-09-15 06:19:43 +0000 UTCHey Enrico haha yeah, I agree but I have gotten countless amounts of comments / messages about the files missing right hands :P something had to be done hehe I think adding a right and left option broken down by character would be the best in between option, the weapons are usually pretty light in size so it wouldn't add that much extra space to have both
2021-09-15 02:28:57 +0000 UTChahah I hear yeah! Great idea for sure, what I'm thinking is adding a small checkbox like list to the breakdown with the names and how many of them you would need to "recreate" that mini. Thanks man!
2021-09-15 02:27:39 +0000 UTCHey Chris! Aw that's a fun idea, I probably wouldn't put that directly on the file name BUT when i take breakdown pictures, I could add a list of all the parts used and definitely put how many of that piece you would need, thanks man!
2021-09-15 02:26:52 +0000 UTCYeah, I was feeling that as well, makes the most sense for sure
2021-09-15 02:25:24 +0000 UTCHey Della! haha what parts are you referring to?
2021-09-15 02:25:04 +0000 UTCInteresting poll. Indeed, impossible to glue the parts of the troop ms so the arms are thin and not interlocking 😅

2021-09-14 18:01:06 +0000 UTCIncluding a "2X" or "2xMir" or something like that in the filename to indicate the number of an object to be printed (and if it needs to be mirrored) would also help immensely.
2021-09-14 15:02:04 +0000 UTCI'd like to see the picture breakdown, but I also think it'd be nice to have a checklist of pieces to print, and how many are needed. Usually the longest step for me is figuring out "what do I need, what is optional add-ons". Not sure how viable this really is, given the mix-and-match nature of your kits (especially some of the recent ones), but it'd help my poor glue fumes-addled brain.

2021-09-14 14:05:46 +0000 UTCJust split minis in thematic folders. No need for random separating work: if people find themselves lost on how to mirror pieces, google is there for everybody.
