1. (1 minutes) - Make sure you have already done the Bass drum technique lesson in the Extras folder and that you master the double bass drum technique. First take a good look at the lesson and pay particular attention to what my right hand is doing, which continues to walk 1 constant route, namely Tom 2, floor snare and back again. Also take a good look at my bass drum that I hold against the skin every time on the second hit for extra punch and control.
2. (5 minutes) - Now play the groove itself and start very slowly! Make sure that every stroke is played tightly in succession, so it is super important to make it sound good later if you want to speed up, so practicing slowly and building muscle memory is also very important in this lesson. If you want to put in the work, it will eventually reward you, if you want to go through it too quickly, it will only irritate you and you will not get the desired result.
Play the groove 8 bars in a row then stop and play it a little faster, this way you build up your speed.
3. (4 minutes) - As an extra challenge you can improvise with the toms. We now use Tom 2 and the floor tom, but you can now decide which tom you want to use 1, 2 or the floor. The snare and hi-hat still remain in the same place.
If you have any questions or you can't figure it out, let me know and I'll be happy to help!
