Total practice time: 14 minutes

1. (2 minutes) - Take a look at the video first. Focus on the first measure of the groove, particularly when I use the tip of the stick and when I use the body of the stick. This is key for the dynamics and swing of the groove. With the second part, pay special attention to when I play the last double right. You’ll see that I immediately prepare my left hand for the snare so I’m ready for my next hit in time.

2. (4 minutes) - Give it a go! Start by playing the first and second groove separately and then together. Keep each shot precise and neat, making sure you play keep playing controlled when you speed it up later.

3. (4 minutes) - You can now speed it up. If you notice that you are playing sloppy with the double stroke, practice it separately at speed RRLLRL, so the counts: 1 e & a 2 &. Make sure to master it first before increasing the speed.

If the last 3 hits on the hi-hat become too difficult in terms of speed, you can apply the same technique as the first 3 hi-hats of the first measure: tip, tip, neck.
