WHEW finally get to actually show you guys one of the vague big projects i've been alluding to. the above is my 2 shots for the resident evil 2 reanimated collab hosted over on newgrounds! (i will be editing in the link right here once it's actually live) huge thanks to the team for letting me work on this and graciously giving me the time to actually finish it all up! this is pretty much entirely what ive been working on all throughout the start of this month, which i suppose is fitting given the season? i dont usually elaborate too much on the process but i thought it'd be fun to actually explain how a lot of this came together.

my goal was to replicate the style of the original FMV cutscene quite heavily, down emulating the same colour palettes, subtitles, and what im pretty sure is a 4:3 (?) aspect ratio. the sound is of course exactly the same as from the original cutscene, which is why i'm not including it anything here just to be safe legally. at one point i even toyed with intentionally lowering and then upscaling the resolution of the animation to make it authentically more artefacted. the backgrounds in particular were a pretty significant process, for the second shot in particular i put together a large reference composite image which would serve as the basis for laying out that respective background.

a huge part of the process was in the editing and compositing which i did in vegas pro. if you're wondering what all the blue is about, it's literally being used like you would use a blue/greenscreen in real life movies. basically the background is tweened and panned across the scenes independently of the actual frame by frame animation of claire and the zombie, and then that said animation is layered ontop and plays out in sync, creating the final image.

i will not lie to you all, the biggest reason i chose these specific shots is i thought it'd make for a great 👀 walking animation for claire in the first shot, which im happy to say was the case, though her derriere is understandbly not the actual focus of the OG shot so its not something you can see all too clearly, alas. i sometimes draw parts of a character out of frame just to get a better frame of reference for the anatomy but i don't think it should be too hard to salvage the below waist angle into something extra for you guys!
