Experimental Hair Regrowth Protocol
Added 2021-09-29 02:44:56 +0000 UTCAs stated in the title, this is purely experimental. I've written this protocol for a client that I am working with to experiment with, though I've gotten many requests to share it here as well.
Let us begin with the important fact that human hair is an electromagnetic antenna. Your EMF environment is crucial, and your redox status defines how your body is capable of handling the (oxidative) stress from the modern environment today. It is wise to keep non-native electromagnetic frequencies (nnEMF) usage as minimal as possible during this process, and if you are able to, use the laptop or phone outside in the sun. Sunlight acts as a faraday cage and helps to mitigate that nnEMF. Keep your router unplugged during sleep, and if you have any neighbors in your immediate living space (such as apartments) and you have a decent relationship with them, ask them to do the same. Keep electronics unplugged when they are not in use to reduce nnEMF as well.
Ocean or natural water body swims once or twice a week certainly wouldn't hurt either in an effort to further mitigate nnEMF impact on the body. Water also acts as a faraday cage, and if its cold, you receive the additional benefit on mitochondrial function/redox status of cold thermogenesis. More on this below.
Recommended blood work/panels:
- Comprehensive metabolic panel (BUN/creatinine ratio should be less than 15:1 if EMF is not an issue in your living environment
- Full hormone panel (testosterone, estrogen, DHEA, progesterone, salivary cortisol/melatonin)
- Full thyroid panel (TSH, T3, T4) Full iron panel (ceruloplasmin, serum copper, serum zinc, serum ferritin (important inflammatory marker), hemoglobin, iron/TIBC, transferrin, RBC magnesium, vitamin A/retinol, vitamin D (another useful indicator for redox status)
- Unlikely, but doesn't hurt: Stage II syphilis (TPPA test)
Eliminate these factors from the diet and lifestyle:
100% ZERO TOLERANCE for:
- SUGAR, or refined Sucrose, as in the ingredient and alternative sweeteners that are still high in Sucrose. This includes processed heated honey (raw honey is fine), maple syrup, coconut sap, agave, molasses, ALL corn derivatives (corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup), and artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame, sucralose, and saccharin. Bananas and dates also have the highest sucrose content of all fruits.
- SOY in every form, except MISO, which preferably you can find SOY free. Many grocery stores carry excellent chickpea miso.
- CORN and all of its derivatives named without the word "corn", or used as a flow agent. You can find a list of foods that contain corn directly or indirectly, though it is quite literally every single processed/refined food that comes in a package.
- GRAINS, especially gluten/wheat to start with. This can also include the ancient grains unless prepared traditionally, meaning soaked 24 - 48 hrs, fermented, and cooked. If leaky gut is present, these are still wise to avoid for this period.
- BEANS and LEGUMES, including cashews, peanuts, etc. These are way too high in lectins for now. Giving the digestive system a period of time without constant inflammation will allow it to repair itself. They should also be soaked for a period (beans, 48-72 hrs unless you have a pressure cooker in which the time is cut down to 24-48 hrs, and legumes should be soaked for 24-48 hrs)
- INDUSTRIALIZED VEGETABLE/SEED OILS, including corn oil, canola oil, soybean oil, grapeseed oil, sunflower oil, etc. You will want to opt for ghee, butter, tallow, lard, coconut oil, avocado oil, or olive oil. Now, a case can be made with traditionally prepared cold-pressed seed oils, though as your health recovery begins, many are overloaded with easily endogenously oxidized omega-6 fatty acids and elimination should be implemented for the time being, aside from black seed oil mentioned in the following emails.
100% ZERO TOLERANCE for Major Toxins:
- Alcohol, cigarettes, and smoked cannabis (Other methods of administration are acceptable if you are not allergic to it)
- Stimulants, including coffee/caffeine and tobacco/nicotine
- Opioids, benzodiazepines, gabapentenoids
- NSAIDs and proton pump inhibitors
- Any recreational drugs, aside from psychedelic entheogens which should be avoided for the time being until you get a feel for what the nutrition, sunlight, and herbal medicines are doing for you.
Include these foods into your diet:
- Seafood, shellfish/mollusks, crustaceans - iodine and selenium to keep thyroid functioning, vitamin D, DHA for mitochondrial function and absorption of full light spectrum from the sun in eyes, brain, skin, and nervous system
- Fatty pork - an excellent source of sulfur and necessary amino acids (sulfur mitigates effects from blue light exposure while improving red light absorption)
- Marine collagen / raw egg yolks + egg membranes - contains necessary forms of collagen, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine (marine collagen shown to improve hair growth in studies, the eggshell membranes contain the same components)
- Grapefruit + ground flax seed soaked and blended in kefir (estrogen detox support, hormonal balance, lysine in kefir acts as 5a-reductase type II inhibitor similarly to finasteride though it can also be supplemented)
- Liver and kidneys - contains retinol (vitamin A), copper/zinc, iron, PABA, plus lots more. Regular liver intake eliminates the need for a B complex, though it wouldn't hurt with this process regardless
- Fruits with high vitamin C content (antioxidant)
- Horsetail extract or high silica content water
- Emu oil, grass-fed meats/butter/dairy/eggs - vitamin K2 MK4 for calcium utilization
Supplements:
Start low and slow when introducing any new supplements in this context.
- PABA up to 100mg - shown to improve hair growth and reduce greying
- Low dose B complex - necessary for hair growth
- Zinc glycinate up to 50-75mg (ensure liver intake for copper) - hormone support, immune system regulation
- Myoinositol, d-chiro-inositol, IP6 - antioxidant, hormonal support, blood sugar regulation, phospholipid development
- L-lysine up to 6-16g - 5a-reductase type II inhibitor (similarly to finasteride), cell wall development, immune system regulation
- Boron glycinate up to 10mg
Main protocol:
- Sun exposure directly to the scalp.
- Topical black seed oil with coconut oil and emu oil as a base, apply in the evening, and let sit for 30-120 min.
- Rinse oils with Bacopa monnieri infusion.
- Topical magnesium chloride/sulfate application to the scalp, back of the head, entire neck, and full upper body. Morning and before sleep.
- Astragalus, Fo-ti, Rehmannia, Blue lotus, 3-6 Peganum harmala seeds in tea twice a day.
- Lion's mane fresh mushroom or extract once or twice a day.
- Cold thermogenesis therapy (cold water therapy - cold shower, ice baths, ocean swims) to the scalp.
Additional notes:
- Proper sleep is crucial. Rise with sunrise, sleep with the sunset as much as possible in the individual context. Ensure little to ZERO artificial light after sunset.
- Consider a shower filter to reduce hard water and xenoestrogen exposure on the scalp.
- Reduce blue light and nnEMF exposure to the greatest extent (an EMF reader can be handy here).
