Furries! Comic pages fully colored out of context! Jellyfish! Naruto! We've got it all in today's batch of secret sketches. I've been in graphic novel land for the last month nonstop and will continue to be for a couple more months so most of what I have to show and talk about is stuff from King Cheer. When I do manage to find time or energy to work on my own stuff it's usually pretty simple or extremely self-indulgent.
I miss going out and landscape painting, or people drawing in a cafe or park. I want to work with blender more, and try 2d animating a little. But with my biggest project coming to a close this Spring, it means more time for my own creative enjoyment. Crazy to think I've been doing this project for nearly 3.5 years. As much as I love Arden High and the team I work with to create it, I'm ready to move on from the graphic novel sphere.
Images 1-3: Doodles in my downtime....I am rewatching Naruto to feel something (and it's working, clearly).
Image 4: Both of my wooden mushrooms sent to me by Nucleus Portland all finished and ready to be sent back to them for the gallery on April 7th at Nucleus House! If you saw the reels on my instagram you'll know I struggled to get these to look how I wanted them to but I'm happy with the result in the end!
Images 5-8: out of context fully colored pages from King Cheer, which is 95% of my life right now! Each page takes roughly half a day to do, and occasionally (often lately, maybe due to burnout) I can only squeeze out a page a day. I am on page 94 now so.....you can do the math.
Image 9: A painting of a jellyfish I did about a month ago but never posted anywhere, partially because someday I'd like to use it when pitching a jellyfish picture book. But I'm not sure if this is the illustrative direction I'd take with it? I want it to be a little less literal.
See you soon and thanks for being here! :-)
