Patreon-Exclusive Speedpaint + Voice Over

Hey all, today I had the idea to do a spur-of-the-moment voice over, just chatting you up about what's currently floating around in my mind, over top of a speedpaint screen recording featuring the first page of ARDEN HIGH: Twelfth Grade Night. I recorded this as sort of a celebration when finishing the book, since I saved the first page for last. This is just for patron-eyes only! Secretive and scandelous.

In this video I'm not so much talking about what I'm drawing and more about other life topics, so let me know if you have any questions about the video content itself! I'm happy to elaborate on anything you're seeing and have questions on.

Happy end of January :->

I loooove the colors you used in this spread and I'm dying to have my own copy of the graphic novel!

hope you're still finding little moments to rest + do the little silly creative things that you're heart gets all melty about <3

mystikmisfit

ooooh boy the colors on this one are extra pretty!! I do wish the speed of the drawing was a little bit slower though, just so we could see a bit more of what you were doing in each part. I love every time you make a video or a voiceover, I just think your voice and your attitude are so chill and calming, it makes me feel cozy. Your art is definitely my happy place and I'm so glad to be back to the patreon πŸ’œ

Hey there, thanks for asking! I actually have never had the opportunity to take any courses (yet). I would be working with a team (or a few) programmers and maybe a couple other other artists, though--it wouldn't be just me. At my art college I did do a game jam though (make a game in 48 hours), where I was the singular artist and worked with a programmer and someone making music. As an illustration student, I was now able to take any game design courses, so I hope that changes with time--I think the curriculum should be more inclusive to cross-major tracks. I have genuinely only played with the idea and done some very minor game work for programming friends :'-)

I think it took about 1.5-2 hours! I had the sketch already in place which definitely cut down the time a lot. If I included the sketch it would probably be closer to 3 hours. :-) Thanks so much!

Jamie, I'm sorry your break is ending. I hope the less workload will enable you to pursue your interests more. I do have a question about your past career trajectory goal. For game design, do you remember what courses/assignments/exercises were you pursuing? Do you have any resources that you recommend? I would be so jazzed to play a Jamie Green game one day where mushroom hunting happens.

Curious to know how long that page took in real time. Love watching your process!

Hope your break was a banger (just like this first page)!

Honored to have replaced your run and brought you some comfort hehehe. Thank you so much for your sweet words!! I hope I can continue to be a source of inspiration and happiness :-D

WAAA thanks Nene, I'm happy with how it turned out, especially coming from a background of really struggling with environments :') Definitely had a very fulfilling January. I am excited for both of us in this next year!

Aw, hey thank you Alyssa! It will be interesting to see how this year goes, definitely. Thanks for the love!!

Congratulations on the consistent work--I completely understand your struggle. Sounds like we are in the same boat, for sure. "Mind recoiling in fear" is something I have just written down because you have totally pinpointed the emotion into words! To answer your question, my favorite meal lately has been my morning protein bagel, with natural peanut butter mixed with greek yogurt, topped with the fruit of the day (aka whatever is in my fridge), some toasted papitas, cinnamon and cacao nibs!!

I always love to see you draw and hear you talk! I wanted to go for a run but it is cold and snowy and as I saw you uploaded a new video I’m staying warm and cozy in my hotel bed (working in the COVID lab so I have to travel) and watching it hehe! It’s great that you’re planning on taking it a bit slower this year when it comes to work. I think it is so important that we have enough time to do the things we love! 😌 anyways I love your artwork and it is so inspiring to me ❀️ take care and thank you for sharing!

Its always so neat to take a look at your process and all the details that go into your work! Im glad that you're pacing yourself more this year with your projects. You deserve to have more time for self care + personal projects. Thanks so much for sharing this with us and take care!

I love your little check ins <3 I'm happy to be a part of this little Patreon pod. I understand that 'mind recoiling in fear' thing to a huge new project. I took on editorial work and while it is consistent, I am drawing other people's visions out and I am craving doing my own thing. It is good to have money coming in like that though. Question: What is your favorite meal as of late?
