OCT. Secret Sketches...✨Shakespeare Edition✨

Boy howdy I sure do hope you are craving a peek at some Arden High in progress! Because it is literally my whole life right now and will continue to be until January when I wrap up illustrating Twelfth Grade Night (Book 1) and start on Book 2...

These crops, you'll notice, do not have individual captions as you scroll through. This was--despite my scatterbrained nature lately--on purpose. I do not want to give too much context to anything that I show because we are really getting into the MEAT of the plot of Twelfth Grade Night at this point.

One thing I will elaborate on is the fact that I have included both a sketch and a full page illustration above to show you yet again (as I have in the past) what the sketch-to-final looks like. It's a rather simple page with only three panels, so the sketch is nearly identical to the final. Some change a bit more than others.

Do you have any questions? I'd be happy to have a chat about anything you might be curious about. I'm so excited about this whole process and how this graphic novel is coming together....and I can't wait to share the experience of the story with you once it's out in Fall 2022!

Hey Griffin, I actually answer these questions in these two posts: My Podcast answering questions about comics ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/52969213 ) and my written/visual post talking about how the comic process has worked for Arden High ( https://www.patreon.com/posts/53171184 ) Let me know if you still have any questions after that though!

Did you study up on graphic novels for this project, and if so what did you study? I find laying out pages super challenging and overwhelming. I never know if I should start with panels or drawings or bubbles. I’m also wondering if you designed your characters before beginning or if you just designed them as you drew.

Thanks so much Gabrielle! It was a big learning curve but I'm glad it comes across looking nice in the end :-)

Your page layouts are so good and attention grabbing. Really really impressive for your first graphic novel. I would never have been able to guess.
