Officially UNUSED Cover for Mushroom Rain

….and then you render it and feel all of that big brain energy leave your body. Such is the case with the original cover idea for Mushroom Rain which I have officially abandoned. I knew something wasn’t feeling quite right and popping how I wanted it to.
At first, I wondered if I was just putting too much pressure on myself because it was the cover of a book that I loved working on very much. This is the first thing people will see on the shelves, after all. I even did two color variations because I thought that might improve it, or make me feel better (lighter color came first, and then darker).
But after showing a few trusted friends and the editor, we all agreed that it fell a little short. And for once, I was happy to hear that! I have since created and finished an alternate cover that I like way better. I’ll save the new cover reveal for another time ;-)
I may try to incorporate some of these little circle spots in the dust jacket flaps or something like that? We will see. This book is nearly done!!

So far I have been in complete control of the aesthetic/type of hand lettering that I do! I usually just go with whatever sort of feel I think accompanies the art well, and up to this point the editors and authors have all been pleased with the outcome 😳♥️
