ISG INKfest Slides and Notes!

Hey there, did you miss the panel presentation from the other day? Have no fear! Although they couldn't legally record it due to their affiliation with the school, I'm uploading everything for you to look through. Like I mentioned in a previous post, I am always a little nervous to present and in my last presentation, I felt like I did a little iffy. But thanks to the incredible hosts of the event (Illustration Student Group) at Columbia College Chicago, and especially to my incredible moderator and friend Sol, I felt this one went really smoothly and I was able to say everything I wanted to.

If you read my newsletter from March you'll notice that I re-used bits and pieces from my previous presentation's slides

I've attached my speaking notes (below) and did not edit anything out--these were the raw papers I was looking at and using as a guide.

And finally, I want to give a huge thank you to anybody here that attended! It was so cool to hear that people felt they actually learned something. I wanted to give a quick shout out to a friend and one of our fellow patrons Emily (@emily.e.draws) for this 🥺

Obviously I wasn't able to include the improv Q&A at the end, so let me know if this brings up any more questions.

I'm feeling overall really thankful for the whole experience. :-)

I think this is a natural experience for all artists. Burnout, feeling of incompetence, and being overwhelmed with work/life balance is unavoidable--I know it sounds like a bummer. My advice is to feel it, to embrace it, and know that it will in fact pass with some time. If it gets to a degree in which you feel its unhealthy for you, clearly something needs to change, but if you can bear it, feel it! It's a part of life! Activities outside of art so long as I can fit them in (exercise being a huge one) helps my brain to handle things a little better. Do good things for your body and brain and your mental state will thank you, even if its in small ways.

This was awesome, thank you for sharing! Couldn't attend the presentation due to timezones (duh) but it seems it was very interesting, I look forward to the possibility of being more in the future 🔆

This is so lovely!! Wish I could've been there to see it presented. I'm gonna be a junior this fall at my art college, and I got kind of a late start (I'm 22!). How did you keep yourself from feeling overwhelmed and discouraged? I find it difficult to not fall into a depression pit when it comes to my art and staying on top of assignments. I'm glad that it seems to be going by quickly though, it feels like I was a freshman just yesterday!
