Anne of Green Gables sketch

Hey friends, hope the first week of November has been treating you warmly thus far. I wanted to share with you a couple crops of sketches for a couple of the pages in the Anne of Green Gables picture book. The publisher provided me with a specific description of what should be shown in each scene (this is sooo helpful and saves me a lot of time!)

For example, for the first illustration shown they said: Full Page Art # 3 of 8: The scene is outside at the Barry’s. Diana is a few inches taller than Anne, and she is wearing a pretty plaid dress with puffy sleeves. She also has on a fresh white pinafore. She has no hat, and her jet black hair is loose and flowing past her shoulders. She has a wide ribbon in her hair, tied in a bow at the top of her head. Anne is on Diana’s left, and is holding Diana’s left hand. In her right hand, Diana has a book. The girls are walking beside a flowing brook, and there are birch trees and other greenery around them. Anne looks happy, and is smiling up at Diana. Her new friend is smiling back.

Reading this back now, I suppose I flipped the left and right--so I might have to change that!

All of the sketches (about 30 images) are due November 23rd for me. After that, they will get back to me with sketch revisions that I will have a month to work on and make any changes. I am trying to make most things fairly clear in my sketches so that they know what they are looking at, but rough enough that it doesn't take too much time. Honestly, I would consider these pretty sketchy. Here's hoping that they can still see my vision!

Earlier today I worked on a full spread sketch of a train station exterior (crop is also attached)--environments are tricky for me so it took me longer than I'm used to. I'm learning a lot during this experience, and my weak/strong points are becoming glaringly obvious. It's tricky but so interesting.

I'm sharing what I think I can from this, luckily it is not under any NDA so I'm able to give you guys some peeks from this project!
