12 years of Catholic school made me the Atheist I am today. They thought critical thinking posters would stop critical thinking... about a 50% success rate 😅 But they taught us that "men" wrote the Bible and God's message is filtered through them ; this is why we must read and search for the "greater meaning" so you can't go around literally reading the Bible. True Atheism isn't a lack of faith in God; It is looking at the facts and coming to the objective conclusion that god(s) don't exist. When Jesus multiplies my loafs of bread , so I can make a damn sandwich; Then I'll belive in him. Until then I will have faith in humanity... despite current events.

2022-01-28 00:34:14 +0000 UTCWell, there was at least something I agreed with in Christy Thornton’s article (last two sentences): First, no nongendered, singular, personal pronoun is used in the biblical languages to refer to people. If the biblical authors had the option, would they have used it? There is no way for us to answer a hypothetical question about the minds of the biblical authors. We can know their minds only as inscribed in the text. So if we can’t know their minds to say whether they’d have used different pronouns, how can we know their minds to say, say, whether they were just making shit up? I’m actually kind of surprised she admitted to that in print.

2022-01-27 20:06:09 +0000 UTCSo I'm familiar with the idea of the Laws of Noah, and that they are supposed to apply universally in Judaism, even to the gentiles. But I've never heard of anyone proselytizing those laws...seems really weird. Also, the G-d thing is so weird. The thing comes from the restriction on using the name of God. It's why Jews will read YHWH as Adonai/the Lord. And if written it isn't supposed to be erased or disposed of without a process. But why apply that to "God"? It isn't a name. It's just like the titles used to get around using the name. Treating "God" like a name ruins the whole point of not using the actual name! What's next, treating G-d as the name, so you have to do G-- and eventually just ---?

When we were released from our obligation the judge does the thank you for your service speech and ends it with, "I want you to remember three things, voting is important, your duty as a juror is important, and carry a gun.
