The usual reason that Aussie courts may suppress the name of an offender is if releasing the name may in some way identify the underage victim. I don't know if this is the case here but it may be. The imam who 'performed the marriage ceremony ' was not charged with aiding statutory rape, but illegally solemising a marriage. This would be only one of the potential charges he could have been charged with, there are likely technical legal reasons why this was all he was. It may be that the big punishment was not being permitted to live in Australia any more. Further every imam in Australia would be aware of this and hopefully not perform any similar 'marriages' and the deterrent value was the major consideration. Still I agree with your sentiment that the bastard should have hit with something considerably more serious.

I suggest that the better false dichotomy is: a) God created Man b) Man created God (it's usually men) The evidences for a) are... NONE, zero, torus! But the evidence for b) is over-FUCKING-whelming: - Science - A robust history of created Gods - Psych 101...999 - DSM religious = paranoid schizophrenic w/ delusions of grandeur (e.g. god fearing, revelations from god, god loves me) - Our natural fear of unanswered (or worse, unanswerable) questions - Fear and ignorance are the best predictors of religiosity - ... So, to avoid "belief," I say "I'm an atheist and I think God is a myth."
