Week 49: first demo released

On Tuesday (3rd of October) I released the first demo. To me it was a big milestone, although I understand that it may feel a little bit underwhelming to others. At this stage there isn’t much to see for a lot of effort that I put into the project. Hopefully, it’ll pay off at some point. I confess this project comes with a fair bit of anxiety attached to it.

Anyway… after the release, I finally started working on developing the game further. The first game mechanics I’d like to implement is the ability for the player to collect a token/key and to insert it into a keyhole to open doors. This will let the player move from room to room, a bit like in the Portal  games. My aim is to design a little puzzle that gives a clear demonstration of time dilation.

There are two main obstacles I need to overcome. The first one is how to implement object collection: how do I design a mechanism to keep two relativistic bodies bound to each other? How realistic does it need to be? The second one is to implement tools to enable designing levels. Adding new rooms, changing the shape of their walls, adding objects inside. This will enable scaling up development and producing more content more easily.
