Interesting power; only 2,542 ft-lbs of energy - midway between a .30-30 and a .30-06 - but the momentum of a 686 grain projectile, starting at .73 caliber and opening up to pie plate diameter, produced some pretty impressive results. I assume these were lead alloy, but I wonder how soft, given the deformation seen. I would think, given the massive shock shown in the gel, that if used as a hunting round, it would bring pretty much any common North American woods animal down pretty quickly; humane and no tracking needed. Big wallop to the shoulder, though - I calculated that if that shotgun weighs 7 pounds, the recoil energy would be about 48 ft-lbs, with a recoil velocity of 21 f/s; that's more than 1 1/2 times the recoil energy of a .300 Weatherby Magnum out of a 9 lb rifle, and close to .458 Magnum territory - from a bench! No wonder Danny's going to the hospital (;-). Good luck with the operation Danny - you're in our thoughts.

My knees were torn up many years ago from a combination of Football and motorcycle off road racing. Walking is a big challenge now. Just taking care of my animals and maintenance around the compound is stretching my limits on several days. Getting old ain't so bad, but the Being Worn Out sure is.

Me too. Had it since 1991 because of 3 spider bits on my left leg between knee and ankle. Dam near lost my leg in 93. Been in hospital again in 2003 because the infection just keeps coming back. But, still have the leg.
