Opening a 48 year old can of 7.62x39

This is a can of ammo I bought from a seller listed in Shotgun News around 1991 or so.   It's been sitting in my attack and nearly forgotten since.

I wanted to share this with you since you don't see stuff like this every day.

This video really stirred up some memories for me. I remember reading Shotgun News in the hospital while recovering from Meningitis when I was 18 years old. That was almost 20 years ago now. It's funny how a short little video like that can invoke such obscure thoughts.

UHG i miss those days... And shotgun news.

Now that looked like some clumsy packaging and I am not sure it would've been easier back in the day. Also, a very interesting and sometimes amusing unboxing video, thanks for sharing!

Best. Typo. Ever.

Before Shotgun News the adds in gun magazines were it other than retailers like Eastern Firearms in Pasadena had barrels of surplus military rifles of all description and condition.

The attic is where ya go when under attack.

The Old Shotgun News was THE thing to have for reference even for those of us that had a FFL. Now the SGN is just about worthless. A few of the old advertisers still there but the prices can not compete with the web. I have never seen a can with the wire opening system before. It looks great though.

Now I understand where the Chinese got the idea for CD and DVD packaging; ammo cans that the pull tab doesn't work on, driving you to distraction to get to that Maroon 5 album that you didn't want to listen to anyway. But you kept on going - it was the principle of the thing. I store my CD's in my attack - until the cellophane falls off . . .

I just opened the last case of 7.62 x 54r from Russia I bought. I opened one spam can of it so far. I believe it's from 1984. I have the same results with the old surplus ammo, no duds, no misfires or anything. I have bought a few rounds of newer stuff and I have had issues with it.

I remember Shotgun News. That was a great catalog. My pop use to order all kinds of fun stuff from it.

Great Video, I too bought it by the case then, I recall the case of ammo($89) was more than the Chinese SKS($79) I bought as well. Loved shotgun news, and I had an FFL back then too... 21 and had the ability to by stuff cheap, unfortunately $ wasn't as plentiful at 21...
