Claudine is a rich and famous dancer looking for something new and Maya is known to be one of the best dancer lead in town, but she only performs in a hidden and shady bar.
I know it's hard to excuse Maya dressed like a man in that period, but it can always be a play and they are just doing their part (and being very gay about it *cough*)
Also Maya, don't smoke.
