Was there any earlier references to the guild officers not being a flat hierarchy except for Aten being the GM? The more I think about it, the more I feel like it seems a bit sudden that there is suddenly someone above Joe that we hadn't heard about it before. If Daisy was Aten's assistant, that would be a different story, but I just don't remember.

2018-06-19 08:20:12 +0000 UTCthe situation i agree was totally foreseeable, but i was more referring to the actions/reactions of the characters as out of left field. i can rationalize it if i have to, but if i have to do it then that means the book isn't doing it for us.

2018-06-18 14:54:07 +0000 UTCI'm not sure it's out of left field. Since Joe joined the guild, he /has/ been getting very preferential treatment. Now that the guild is getting large enough to /need/ a middle management, he was warned he wouldn't have direct access to the guild leader(alliance leader? Maybe there's a guild alliance now). Joe is going about things the old way, Daisy has preconceived ideas (indicated by the guild leaders discussing this assignment), and the butted heads badly. It doesn't help that Joe is probably right, and this is the first time her authority has ever really been tested, and she went overboard. All in all, I think the scene works fine.

2018-06-18 02:33:05 +0000 UTCMaybe its just me, its hard to believe that two people meeting for the first time knowing little about each other would act so... Extremely. First time we see the guild magic used on anyone, first time we see a Gquit for any reason, first time we see joe do something so drastic (I did think that he might be "jumping to conclusions") and at least to me it feels ungenuine to what we know about the character. Maybe in the next chapters some more stuff will come to light. As on now my incredulity is piqued.

2018-06-17 12:47:40 +0000 UTCDamn you! This comment makes it even harder to resist! ...gah! I’m stronger than that!

2018-06-15 21:15:00 +0000 UTCTLDR: the lack of foreshadowing makes this feel like it was a "hand of god" moment that is hard to believe from what we know of the characters at this point. | Suggestions: Maybe a reference to the time he was imprisoned by the mages guild? maybe a reference to that contract magic? maybe a dream a couple chapters earlier of his ex-wife and how much he hates her guts? maybe we hear someone else complaining about this Daisy chick? Maybe some snickering/jealousy from other players about Joe's relationship with Aten or his awesome achievements.

2018-06-15 13:38:22 +0000 UTCI cant help but feel like this came completely out of left field. it just happened so suddenly. I know that Aten mentioned it once in the past that Joe cant just keep hogging his time but Daisy was literally just introduced, there was no forewarning and the event is so drastic that it doesn't feel right. I do like that Daisy comments on the fact that nobody wanted the position because Joe can be annoying, it does make this more believable. but i think there should be more leading up to this point than just lack of coffee and a name. also, i think the Jaxon reference means that Daisy's charisma is low? this also adds to the credibility but my personal opinion is that there should have been some more mentioning of Daisy prior to this point.

2018-06-15 13:35:54 +0000 UTCThis was super entertaining. I like this twist - normally in this kind of confrontational situation the person backs down... to have to learn how to deal with the organization. Just a little bit of satisfaction seeing Joe do that.

2018-06-15 11:46:46 +0000 UTCGod damn it!! Fine, $10 it is, take my stinking money. I need my fix!
Mr IHHI
2018-06-15 11:30:23 +0000 UTCThe only requirement he needs is the mana. And he doesnt have to be the only person contributing it either, as is the case with a number of other rituals he's performed. I also don't think he wants anywhere near that amount of responsibility. That other mage guild is coming to be his battery, and I imagine the majority of The Travellers will be expected to contribute their mana reserves as well.
Dax
2018-06-13 10:45:44 +0000 UTCSo who else thinks that Joe is going to become guild leader, using the ability to borrow everyone's stats to fulfil the requirements for this ritual building?
Leaf
2018-06-13 10:23:10 +0000 UTCMore like the team gave the draft pick an agent. The agent just believes they're more important than the players and lost the number 1 seed because of it.

2018-06-12 01:48:49 +0000 UTCI am also curious about how someone new like Daisy got to be put in charge of an important guild asset like Joe with literally no warning. It would be like having an NFL draft pick come into practice one day and suddenly he can't see the coach without the water-boy's approval. This makes no since when you consider the fact that Joe is in the middle of a project that will put the guild, and their new ally, head and shoulders above everybody else. I bet Aten is sh*tting bricks right now. Joe still could have handled this better though.

2018-06-12 00:14:29 +0000 UTCI agree and disagree with what you say. I think Aten has been really supportive of Joe and listens to him well but he assigned Daisy to be his manager to be a middle man for stuff that Joe feels could be unimportant or could wait for a later time but she either willfully or unintentionally misunderstood. He did hire a bunch of mages to come to help him build a building and also meets with him pretty much every time Joe wants except this time. This whole thing boils down to Daisy either not understanding or not knowing that Joe is literally the reason why the guild is how big and powerful it is now and pretty much carrying the guild at this point.

2018-06-11 22:30:03 +0000 UTCWell no matter what happens I'm sure daisy is now persona non grata with the guild

2018-06-11 22:11:32 +0000 UTCThis was a GREAT chapter!!! I am glad to see the Guild put into check by Joe. I really feel like they have not bee appreciative of him. I know Joe likes to do his own thing but Aten should have done more to show Joe that he is glad that he is in the guild.

2018-06-11 21:19:51 +0000 UTC*sigh* Ah, a good ol reality check.

2018-06-11 18:24:49 +0000 UTCAfter reflecting on this chapter, I really hope Joe rejoins the Wanderers, just so that he can make this building and get his specialisation! Or maybe he can join up with that guild of mages that is supposed to be coming, and then he can make it for them?

2018-06-11 17:38:52 +0000 UTCSo high... can't wait for Wednesday to find out what will happen
Connor Hinrichs
2018-06-11 17:33:11 +0000 UTCHonestly, same. I was so shocked with this turn of events my reading speed couldn't keep up with my eyes as I kept trying to go faster as we jumped from Joe's perspective to Aten's
Connor Hinrichs
2018-06-11 17:23:55 +0000 UTCHe said Biiiiiiiiii**iiiitch! Key and Peele anyone?
Joel Williams
2018-06-11 17:09:22 +0000 UTCFrom what we have seen, the way characters act, and what his friend said, it appears there isn't a friend list or a message system. Those things must be actively managed by the players. The only thing there seems to be is a reputation indicator.
Bob of Doom
2018-06-11 16:42:50 +0000 UTCMy guess is that the discount at the mages college and the tax break (because remember, the guild gets a tax break because of Joe) are just buffs and the system doesn't do an alert when the buffs end. If he rejoins the guild then they'll get told again why everyone puts up with Joe.
Bob of Doom
2018-06-11 15:54:17 +0000 UTCIs there an in game message system? And what about the apprentice merchant, did I miss that? Also I wouldn’t handle it well if someone tried to force me to act a specific way. if I was Daisy the second I found he was going to do it anyways I’d say “Ok, let’s go together and we can figure out exactly what Aten wanted to happen.”
Fawn Crow
2018-06-11 15:44:05 +0000 UTCYeah he was. I think given his reputation of being wild and crazy guy, not many want to work under him so it wouldn't make sense to make hima senior leader because he would be expected to lead more groups and take a bigger role. It makes sense that as the clan grew that Joe's officer level would meet his status.
Jacob Santos
2018-06-11 15:33:44 +0000 UTCI was expecting something like this. Likes to heel turn in a way that is acceptable but annoying. Such shifts should be unacceptable but damn if the turn of events won't be epic as fuck.
Jacob Santos
2018-06-11 15:22:21 +0000 UTCMaybe I'm forgetting something, but I thought Joe had a higher standing in the guild, considering his immense overall contributions, and the fact that he joined them pretty early on (when all their members fit into a single inn). I mean, Aten was worried at one stage that Joe would want to take the Leader position and that he wouldn't be able to do much about it...
Dax
2018-06-11 14:46:41 +0000 UTCQuick check, his wife is only mentioned briefly in chapter two of the last book. Also, what ever happened to his friend he was supposed to meet in game?
Bsoxmk2
2018-06-11 14:43:41 +0000 UTCLast note I swear. Shouldn’t the guild notice also include all the removal of Joe specific aspects like their discount at the mages college.

2018-06-11 14:32:45 +0000 UTCHoly fuck my heart is beating freaking fast and my hands are shaking like crazy....... This chapter just hit me like 5 cups of coffee, it seems. I really hope he can reconcile with the Wanderers, though. And well, if not - looking into a ritual for draining and storing mana to power that building ritual for his class advancement might still be worth looking into.
Itisn1tmyname
2018-06-11 14:28:09 +0000 UTCI'm split on this one. On the one hand it seems really sudden with no buildup outside of this interaction (his ex isn't really even mentioned outside of the first chapter or two of the last book). On the other hand this is exactly the sort of interaction i love to read about.
Bsoxmk2
2018-06-11 14:25:44 +0000 UTCYeah, that Command ability is actually a bit much. I wouldn't like the thought of guild officers having that kind of power over me. And she was abusing tge power completely, Joe's reaction was justified
Connor Hinrichs
2018-06-11 14:25:17 +0000 UTCWell shit, that blew up extremely quickly. I was not expecting this turn of events at all, I actually thought the end of the chapter would be the mages arriving to make the building with Joe. Really interesting that Joe lost respect (reputation) for Aten because of his association with Daisy. Im actually kind of interested in what would happen if Joe deosnt come back to the guild!
Connor Hinrichs
2018-06-11 14:22:14 +0000 UTC"Beyond sending me to get you off his back, Aten also wanted me to let you know that he sent a messenger to Ardania last night, and another guild comprised entirely of Mages [if->is] coming to help you with something. They should be here tonight.”
E. Rose
2018-06-11 14:10:11 +0000 UTCFor the passage: "Not that hadn’t tried. The words on the answer cube was blurry and [he] no matter how he looked at it, he couldn’t make it out. " Is the he in brackets necessary? And should it be were blurry instead of was blurry and also there be a he after that and hadn't in the first sentence?
E. Rose
2018-06-11 14:02:12 +0000 UTCWell Daisy is going to be fired. Or at least lose all authority because of her abuse of power. Now the question comes can any of the 10 named guild members find Joe before he leaves? Of course, if his party finds him outside of Poppy then we're going to run into the fun chapter of him explaining what we just read. Honestly, I would have loved it if Aten could have used his guild leader ability to steal ALL THE STATS so he can infer where Joe would go and run to talk to him and smooth it over with his AMAZING charisma.
Bob of Doom
2018-06-11 13:48:14 +0000 UTCHmm not too sure about that. Him rejoining the guild that is, someone do that to me after all I did for them would have to do some Major groveling. And boy that cliff sure is high.
Alex Wierzbicki
2018-06-11 13:20:06 +0000 UTCOr didn't I? I can't remember but I guess chevov gun.
Jacob Santos
2018-06-11 13:17:18 +0000 UTCI also didn't realize exactly how much power guild leaders had.
Jacob Santos
2018-06-11 13:16:13 +0000 UTCAh man. I didn't expect this. This is nice.
Jacob Santos
2018-06-11 13:15:27 +0000 UTCI can already tell, he is just proving a point. He will rejoin them, put with a better/different contract
