Basically "bleed" mana into a bottle or jar that needs used in X time before disappearing. That way he has a banked amount he can buffer the ritual cost with.

Which does make me wonder if they can participate and if Joe remembers being told everyone has mana. If we assume that bard is average around 250 then we need 445 guild members.
