2025-06-07 21:27:29 +0000 UTCMaybe it’s just the corner of the Internet that I spend most of my time on, but I’ve actually seen more atheist and skeptic content about this “debate“ than I’ve ever seen in my YouTube feed about a current event, except perhaps around the presidential election. I do feel that Britt of no nonsense spirituality’s take on Petersen in her recent video essay was spot on. She basically said that he is terrified of existential nihilism, and the only way he maintains his own sense of safety and security in the world is to cling to his ideas with no mind to the consequences for himself or others, as a means of psychological survival. And I think that his bad faith engagement, both with his interlocutors’ and his own ideas, showed very clearly even in the final cut that made it to YouTube. I wish that more people would talk to him the way that you described Zina as speaking with him— like a parent to a child about to throw a tantrum. Despite his intellect, charisma, and ability to reason quickly, he seems to be a very, very unhappy and dissatisfied individual. I think that anyone who looks at this man as a source of wisdom for how to live well, has not considered that he’s extremely angry and unhappy and that any wisdom he might offer will not lead to the kind of life they actually want to live. 🤷♀️
