I DEFINITELY recognize the ex-fundie moral vertigo, having tangled with several young men who left their repressive evangelical family/church/town and imagined that moral standards of any sort would henceforth vanish from their lives, leaving them in some sort of Nietzschean free fall of whatever they want, whatever they can get away with doing, everything's permitted. I can still see the dropped-jaw shock on the face of the guy I let crash in my spare bedroom for a few months after his family disowned him for doubting the Holy Blood of Jesus (Oh, south Georgia.....) when I REPRIMANDED him for treating a young woman he dated with callous cruelty; what did I MEAN, moral disapproval from an ATHEIST???? He actually did a double take, boggled, and stammered "bbbbbbut YOU aren't supposed to...." (have moral standards?" I cut in... in my own house?) It's sometimes quite the hard lesson for them to learn: that all those pastors who told them "moral values depend on God and anybody who is not Christian can only be an arbitrary relativist" were LYING about that (too) and their Ten Commandments "Obey The Lord" version of morality is just authoritarianism and propaganda, painting dissent from their worldview as sinful and degenerate. (It's hilarious how they accept the idea non-Christians get abortions as some sort of hobby, for fun.)
