Spooky scary update

As mentioned in the previous update, development has been a bit slow this month as a result of:

Despite all this, I'm quite happy with the state of the plugin sandboxing system so far, and it's probably around 75% done now.

So far I have only been developing this system on Windows and there is a bit of platform-specific stuff going on which I will also have to figure out on macOS and Linux, but I will have to get to that after the move (the mac mini is now somewhere in one of these many boxes stacked up around me.)

At least on Windows, the ideas appear to be working, and I managed to get to the bottom of a lot of technical confusions I had at the start of the endeavour.

My official move-in date is next Wednesday but the new place I found is about a 2.5 hours drive away, so I'll be doing the actual move over several days, and then also coming back again to do cleaning and hand over the keys.

Overall I'm feeling very positive about the move and I'm looking forward to hopefully being able to sleep properly every night and getting much more done with Blockhead.

"Ask Me Anything"?

Is there any interest in me making a youtube video where I answer a bunch of random questions? If so then just post your question in the comments of this post and after I am settled in the new property I could try to make a video answering everything. Note that if your question is something like "Are you going to add (some common/obvious DAW feature) to Blockhead?" then my answer is almost always "Yes, but there is no time estimate."

hi! I’m glad things are working out! I can’t imagine trying to figure all this out, it’s quite impressive! Do you have a favorite plugin or DAW that inspires some aspects of Blockhead? I miss when practically all DAWs were able to send audio over to an audio editor for precise editing, do you see something like that making it in Blockhead, or a clip editor of its own (like the sample editor in renoise)? I hope you can find peace at your new place!

what has been the most interesting technical challenge in development so far? any particularly satisfying aha moments or clever solutions that you are especially proud of?

Kai Christensen

I just have one question: 1. Will an API for creating plugins like in Renoise or Reaper be available later? Lua, LuaJIT, C++? Info from me: 1. Full of unconventional DAW ideas 2. Works great under wine on linux

Martin

Yes - ama would be great!

Will Woodard

Yes: - what was the reason to start the development of a new DAW - what was your coding background (related projects you did) - what is the most important lesson (or lessons) learned so far during development (focused on audio and/or audio development, if possible)

Daniel

Hmmm some questions: -What made you snap and start making your own daw? -What bugs you most about other DAWs -Fav feature in another DAW -If funding allows for it, would you ever hire other people to help with blockhead?
