The struggles of a newbie

Hey everyone!

As you may already know, I’m working on a comic. This idea has fully captured my attention. But it turns out that even an experienced artist finds it tough to tackle something like this for the first time. It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions for me, ranging from inspiration to feeling overwhelmed and even desperate at times.

I’ve never been a huge comic fan, so a lot of this is new to me. I’m figuring out how to write scripts for comics, if I even need to in my case, what kind of speech bubbles to use, the font, panel layouts, and how to not overload the text, etc.

But the hardest part is adapting my style for such a big project. Usually, I spend anywhere from a couple of days to a week on a single illustration. But here, there are at least three on one page! It seems like this question will linger in my mind for a while. I’ll make the first comic according to my perfectionist standards, with all the details, even if it takes me way longer than the couple of weeks I whimsically thought at first. After that, we’ll see!

Anyway, I want to start posting it by the end of the month.

Wishing you all a fantastic Thursday!

Nah, the bits of hair coming down the sides of her face and the ponytail are too iconic from survivor series Lara lol. Not a bad thing though, the fact that she’s recognizable is good. Also you’ve done a good job with her facial structure, she’s got a recognizable angular jawline that you capture well.

Haha, did it really turn out that recognizable? I thought this screenshot would keep some intrigue. What if it's Ellie from The Last of Us?

No problem. I’m a fan of your painted art style and I understand how much work has to go into it but the payoff is well worth it. I’m also particularly excited for this project as I’m a big TR and Lara fan in general, excited to see what you do with her.

Thank you for your supportive words, Ares

I really respect when creators undertake and actually see through a larger scale project. Excited to see more of this and I’m rooting for you. It’ll be hard work but it’ll also be something you’ll be able to look back on and appreciate.
