Audio - 4th Dimension pt3
Added 2021-05-07 16:33:09 +0000 UTCWhoever it was that pointed out that the audio versions of these bonus videos all have different names and don't order properly, I'm completely on your side and agree. Trouble is I can't seem to find out what I've called previous episodes and just get confused every time trying to pick. Whoever it was, just tell me how you'd like them labelled, and I'll follow that from now on. :D
Note to listeners: It's been pointed out that there's a bit that only makes sense in the video because I go "look what I can do!" and then shut up. What I do there is I have a sip of tea and DON'T have to then wring it out of my moustache.
DINOSAURS!
Yep, we're about to get to The Stuff that we remember about this book, the really GOOD stuff that makes this our favourite Sonic book (and you'll find out this episode what that stuff is going to be), but first there's something we have to do: it's 1993 and this is a book in which the characters have a time machine, so of course we have to have dinosaurs. But this is a good book, so James Wallis manages to turn it into something a bit touching.

As to the "well did anything else ever really give him any depth" thing, I'd argue that a character having human reasons for their evil doesn't necessarily require them to be less evil. A man who does horrible things out of what amounts to sadism and ego, as Ian Flynn tends to write him, is IMO more interesting than a man who does bad things because of the evil machine making him be evil - but I'm sure you've heard this a hundred times already! That said, I think the closest thing to what you're describing would be IDW Sonic #23, where Eggman has a moment of realisation that yes, actually, he did kind of enjoy being a "good guy" before dismissing it and returning to committing atrocities. It's a good scene, and one that you couldn't get with the ROCC origin!

2021-05-26 23:23:07 +0000 UTCMan, hearing you guys gush about the UK Origin is kind of tragic in that it underlines how I dunno that the STC and "everywhere else" interpretations of Sonic CAN ever be reconciled. Like, it's SO integral to the DNA of what makes STC what it is, and yet it's also so very much at odds with any other vision for Sonic that it'd be nigh-impossible to incorporate into those worlds.

2021-05-26 23:15:48 +0000 UTCOh that's a good point -- we DID cover it, but we covered it on a live stream as part of the PodUK festival, so yes I really ought to dig out the recording and put it up as a special, good shout.

2021-05-19 11:27:33 +0000 UTCI'm forgetting, and I'm unable to find it via text search, but did you ever cover Stay Sonic as a feature? I know it was discussed a lot, especially around STC's The Origin of Sonic, but I don't remember you ever recapping it standalone
