Q&A: Why Do Pop and Dad Wear Their Rings Around Their Necks?

I’ve noticed that pop and dad wear their wedding rings around their necks (assuming it is their wedding rings). What’s the story behind that, I think it’s cool.

When it comes to tradition, I'm usually at a crossroad. I think there's a lot of meaning in traditions, but I also believe doing the same thing forever the same way gets tired. When Simon and I got married we originally wore our rings around our fingers and it just felt off to me. I overthink things often and when it came to marriage and the "symbolism" of the ring, I felt like it was more akin to a territory marking rather than a true sign of bond or love. So after a few weeks, we decided we wanted to do something a little different and we bought some nice silver necklaces. Once we did that we both said we loved it much more than wearing rings. We had our "bond" and felt like it was expressed in a more handsome way on the chain around our necks.

When we created Dad and Pop we emulated the same gesture because we thought it'd be fun to represent different ways of expressing union to an audience. I love when people find ways to express themselves uniquely and I feel like we try to encourage that subtly through the comic.
