How does AJ help with the comics?

Well, honestly the most important credit to give him is he inspired the comic. We met him for the first time when he was 8, about 6 years ago. We took him up to my family's cabin in the woods for a weekend camping trip. He went wild! He had such a great time and we just loved watching him go on adventures in the woods with our Mastiff, Magnus, who was more than double his size back then. During that trip, Simon and I began talking about what we'd be like as dads, if we wanted to be dads, etc. The seed was planted and a year later we released the first strip.

Today "AJ" still plays a role in inspiring the comic just being himself. As he grows up and we have discussions with him, he inspires ideas that make for some funny, deep, or sweet moments in the comics. Honestly, we never expected to be dads, but we're so glad we met him and had a chance to be in his life. Things haven't been easy for any of us, but I wouldn't change any of it since it got us to where we are today; a family breaking from a dysfunctional cycle and doing better for it <3
