When danny said " its in spotify's best interest to filter the streams", i was confused, because wouldnt more streams mean more money for spotify? Spotify still retains the unfiltered streams (thereby retaining the money for streams), while filters the "authentic" streams for the charts. so they get to keep the streaming money and ultimately controls who goes on their charts (assuming they judge authenticity of streams by number of monthly listeners)

Emma

Spotify actually accepts payment from artists/companies to boost certain artists in curated playlists and suggestions. That is why some artists have very high monthly listeners numbers but v low follower numbers. If Spotify can control the number of monthly listeners, who dont actively seek out these artists but passively listen to whatever is offered to them, then these figures of "real listens" are also fake (bc they were paid for). In the end, i rather spotify engage in a power struggle with fans in grassroots organisation, then hide behind the facade of unique "personalised" playlists

I’m spiritual but not particularly religious. However, because of that I try to be respectful and understanding of other people’s religious beliefs. Does it mean I always get things right? I’m sure I don’t. Luckily if I’ve ever said or done anything that might have bordered on disrespectful, the person has always been nice enough to let me know in a calm way why what I did could be seen as disrespectful or why and I have always thanked them for letting me know and then took the steps to never repeat the mistake again. Fortunately I can only think of that happening twice in my lifetime. I’ve also been fortunate enough to meet people who did not mind me asking them questions about their religion and religious beliefs when I met them so that I could learn more about them. So if you’re a musician or performer you basically have to make a choice, do you take the safe road and avoid the topics that you know can be problematic in music such as religion and politics thereby ensuring you have less problem with worldwide distribution, or do you delve into those topics with your music knowing that by doing so you may lessen your success? Each musician or performer has to make that decision on their own.

So here is my take on Spotify. I’ve had a premium Spotify account in the US for who knows how many years, it’s been that long. Long before BTS’s music appeared on it. I stream either on my phone or on my laptop. As long as I pay for it, and I’m streaming it, and if my account allows for it, if my account allows me to stream on multiple devices simultaneously due to a family account, Spotify has zero right to delete credit for those streams. There are multiple people associated with that account and they could be streaming some of the same music at the same time and it is completely legitimate, plus that’s what the paid account is for. My account is a single account so Spotify better not delete a single time I listen to any song. If I set up a playlist and have a song on that playlist multiple times that is my right to like and enjoy listening to that song. I’m not listening back to back 24 hours a day like some robot, but even if I was I paid for it so Spotify can deal with it and get over it and pay the artist their damn royalties.

U convey the idea and ur spot on. Ur English is fine.

I forgot about Sam, that is so true. I remembered now that u mentioned it.

Also totally agree with Danny’s point that the international fans need to stop talking when Korean fans find something offensive because of the historical and cultural context. It’s exactly the same as when Korean fans belittle issues on cultural appropriation. Both sides of the fandoms think they are superior to the other.

Hello I'm from Japan. About Sakura's performance: Danny was questioning why the placard had to be written in Korean... This is my personal guess but 1)as it was explained in the video, since Sakura has been active as a member of IZONE until very recent, her fans recognize her as "사쿠라" and support her as 사쿠라. 2)KPOP has always been and still growing at this moment in Japan. Many young Japanese people look up to Korean culture in general. Sakura once being active in KPOP industy makes her very respected. So I personally can understand if the Otaku(yes, it is definitely Japanese Otaku.DEFINITELY. It can't be Korean fan) of Sakura being super supportive of her holding a placard of her name in Korean is trying to show Sakura's talent and effort, being capable to be active in KPOP industry. Sorry for my poor English!

I just think that it is really interesting that some Korean found the show in Japan offensive and anti Korean, and said that ignorance was no excuse and they were extremely and they should know how offensive it was. When Sam Okyere pointed out the problem with the high school kids doing black face the first thing that they said was "we didn't know'. I'd also like to point out that Sam was canceled HARD by Koreans for speaking up. I just see hypocrisy.

Hi guys, unfortunately I can't make it to the live aftershow due to the time difference (it would be 4am in Finland) but I still wanted to comment on the BTS borahee issue. Sadly, I think it is not the first time and it won't be the only time that People will try to benefit from BTS' influence and popularity. The only thing we can do as fans is to speak our minds when we consider something has been done unfairly against BTS.

Patricia

Ur right it just sounds like wallah when they say it. At least in the US it does. Lol That's the americanized version.

Steven Pambello

Isn't the word magicians use "Voila"? It's a French word.

Emika

Considering all the backlash against Jay Park over the years, I'm surprised he even cared. There is also another meaning for wallah. Magicians use it all the time when they perform tricks. For example, I will cover this item with a cloth and when I remove it the item will be gone. Then they pull the cloth away and say "Wallah"! and the item is gone. I figure Jay Park was just looking for a rhyme word and didn't give it a second thought to it's multiple meanings until someone threw it in his face.

Sidenote: After watch Danny & David in LA at the Rose Bowl, I knew from that moment, if it was only once, i have to see BTS live & hopefully have at least half of you guys experience.

Anique Monae

Spotify has always been sus. They've cheated artists out of streaming royalties which is why I stopped using it. I only uploaded again since Dynamite era to support BTS. That said, I'm very curious to see how touring is going to work. You have those who kept their tickets who will have first dibs, then you have a slew of new Army who will literally be fighting or paying out the 🍑 to get tickets. I've prepared myself for the latter only because of the horror stories I'm hearing about trying to get any tickets for BTS is insane.

Anique Monae

Spotify's lack of transparency is suspicious. Thank heavens for Stationhead! Offline concerts are full speed ahead here in the US. I'm hopeful for BTS dates, and I imagine they will wait for Korea first. Though MonstaX has new US dates. How do you suspect BTS will reschedule when they have dates all around the world and the pace of recovery is different everywhere? I don't know if they'll reschedule all at once.

Erika Thompson

I also think it‘s suspicious that the especially the US has almost no increase in stream while all other countries have a big increase in streams. Also much more Butter Streams get filtered than Dynamite Streams. But US Army know how to stream and have been using the same methods for Butter & Dynamite.

Daniela Dittrich

I do think the Spotify situation with BTS is a bit suspicious, and Columbia Records seems to think so as well because the Vice President of the label is apparently meeting with Spotify about the issue. I just hope they get the #1! Now that TXT's album is out, I'm curious what was the surprising thing the reviewer said to Danny? I hope offline concert goes well, I'm just worried that if any COVID cases comes out of it they will be shut down again.
