I feel like every billionaire/millionaire is hated eventually because people realize what they could do with their money and choose not to. I'm waiting for Elon Musk's reputation to plummet. People are already disliking Bill Gates here. Bezos is already seen as trash in the US.

Amanda Rivera

Is it just me or is the audio really bad? Like when you guys are just a little louder I can't hear anything.

charlie90

People say he must of known what it meant, but I am not sure about that. I mean, the guy is married, and not from the US. It's not even used much in this day and age. I'd like to hear what he has to say. I'm sure in his mind he feels like whatever he says is going to be taken out of proportion. He's not so dumb to put preach on a sexual comment after going through the whole black face! I took it as he was saying yeah, I'm black and can't change it. We really don't know.

Tom Hanks is so pure!! Lol and Betty White!!

The people making a stink are the loudest but that doesn't mean everyone of the same race or country where they live feel that way or do those things. It is important to remember to make note of the difference between the ruling government and the people that live there.

Jasmine

What was said was definitely in poor taste "locker room talk." My issue is with the intention of creating an issue where there wasn't want to cover for taking responsibility for other distasteful behavior.

In the USA, sexual harassment in the workplace has come a long way. Lots of terrible things still happen and people get away with murder, but the language used would be considered sexual harassment legally the underlying context is well understood and any conversation about sex (unless you work in the medical field or etc) is not acceptable. The moment he participated in that conversation, and that participation wasn't him saying, "hey man be respectful, that's my coworker or my friend, it's not appropriate to say that." If he didn't respond then he wouldn't be party to that. His response can be taken worse depending on the person because "preach" isn't just encouragement, it has religious connotation and can mean it's not just something good but is the undeniable truth, the way that God intended, so no argument is possible, it's written in the Bible blah blah... That type of mentality. So, even if that's not what he meant, people could take it that way. Just think about how much people hate missionaries and the bloody oppressive part of the history of Christianity. He's not in Ghana, he's in Korea and knows what is socially acceptable. Instead of saying "I'm from Ghana and the one habit that I have had trouble adjusting is that. I meant no offense and this is something I've been working on." Maybe he didn't know it was unacceptable, if it really is acceptable and normal in Ghana, so wasn't concerned about doing it. However, he was doing it to the level that a person speaks up to tell him to stop, an apology should have been in there from Sam. It shouldn't matter if you're a guy or a girl, but sexual harassment is terrible to experience. It doesn't have to be vulgar or explicit language for it to be or become sexual harassment. It could be someone telling you, "you're so pretty" or "you're a good woman." It's harassment because it's constant and unavoidable because you work there so you have to go to work every day, or you live in the same building so every time you check your mail or walk your dog. You shouldn't have to confront them to tell them to leave you alone, because that shit wouldn't stop them anyway. It's gross. They are telling you that they are interested in you and that shit feels terrible if you don't want them anywhere near you. The problem with "it's just a joke" or "it's part of our culture and just something black people say to each other" is that it creates a double standard in regard to something that has harmed someone else. Whether it's a double standard about language or behavior, it only creates problems. Positive stereotypes are still stereotypes. Asians in the USA were used to build the railroads, sent to concentration camps, and have a similar story to other unfortunate and terrible experiences of other races. Colonization happened all over the world and all of those cultures can relate to shared horrors. Talk about reparations or talk about bringing diversity back to areas of San Francisco don't talk about how those predominately black areas were Asian until they were driven out and sent to concentration camps when they weren't even the same race but happened to be Asian. A news headline talked about small family owned grocery store that has been here for 55 years suffers from looting and had a picture of the store sign. Miyaki Ice cream. Everyone was black, no one married in, they just kept the sign since there was nothing wrong with it. Mayor talks about bringing the people that used to live there back, so what about the ones before them? A double standard will be used for as long as possible because it is an advantage. The problem is it needs to be a standard for everyone because there is always another person or another race that will be affected. Like the native Americans were residents of that area before blacks or Asians, but the mayor doesn't say anything about giving them preference. The positive stereotypes of being good at math or rocket science or karate, are fun because it is a compliment if you like those things. It's not fun if you actually struggle with math or school in general or are just okay because you work hard to have passing grades. Both are stereotypes that are out of a person's control because you can't change the race you were born with. The same way that joke lifts up black people it is also saying to everyone else that they are inferior because of race. Double standards aren't sustainable.

I-Land: we need to hear more vocals, I’m not really sure how Niki and Hanbin actual sound when their parts are so small and possible auto tune. And agreed about Takis vocal issue, so much auto tune, like they covered for him, we need to know if he did actually sing his part well to help us decide how to vote. At this point Taki is the weakest link?

I am also curious about the chances of us seeing an A.C.E interview/carpool karaoke segment. Perfect window for that because the Dreamcatcher segment was really good and would LOVE to see you shine some more spotlights on these smaller groups.

LeAnn

Also, definitely not the real Kim Jong Un.

Covid bullshit: Keep us updated about what’s going on over there and how it’s effecting y’all. 🙏🏽 Is break the silence (BTS movie) being shown over there? It’s being shown in the US in some theaters and it’s weird. Have you heard if BIgHit does want to release this online? What’s stopping them from doing that? Iland ep 8: (disclaimer, my bias is K!!!) Regarding K and nikis interaction, is it part of Japanese culture? K is one of the oldest and niki is the youngest. Regarding Heeseuog leadership skills, in ep 1 he said “I knew this was going to happen,” after members weren’t so happy with the way he was taking on the leadership role. I’m very curious about the background to this comment. Maybe he has had more experience with trying new kinds of leadership techniques during his time as a trainee. SOOP: I lub everything about it 🥰 i think the editors clown on them a lot with their commentary but yeah, just telling me Tae quietly enters the room doesn’t mean much. DKDK: I appreciate Danny just swearing cause if feels real to me and he’s just flowing in conversation. But put your mask on homie! Request follow ups: What did A.C.E say when Sarah called to schedule that interview?

Also Hanbin, deserved more. So true. The Jhope comparison is spot on.

on the topic of I-Land, K, and Niki... I wonder how fluent Niki and Kai are in korean? I think one of the big missteps in Kai scolding Niki was switching to Japanese in front of the other members of the group. What Niki did impacted the whole group and they all deserved to be a part of the conversation. I think it led to more awkwardness. However, I understand if one of them isn’t totally comfortable in korean. Also, Kai’s Japanese was ANGRY. He used the rudest word for “you” when referring to Niki. “You” is hardly ever used at all and especially the one Kai used to scold Niki. He might not have been screaming pig but he was hardcore shaming, condescending, and informal to him. He was one step away from rolling his Rs. I can only remember hearing drunk people use “omae” for “you” outside of anime and movies.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this aftershow as I have company coming over - but the fun part is the reason they are coming is to watch the final 2 episodes of "It's Okay to not be Okay." :) Anyway, the whole "cancel culture" is so extreme that it has become the new mob rule. "Witch hunt" is right. On the other hand, even though this is a common joke in black culture, Sam shouldn't have apparently "agreed" to such a comment in a public forum with a photo that would obviously be assumed to relate to the comment. But I DO wonder what the comment said that was blurred out - ? Did that play a part in Sam's response? What if that comment was "Don't talk like that" - and Sam said, "Preach!" That would be the opposite meaning. (Probably not - or he would have said so to clear his name...) But the point is, all people are human. Celebrities WILL make mistakes - some to be funny (Lee Hori), some out of ignorance, some out of intentional prejudice. An apology may be necessary and helpful - but this "you no longer deserve to work" mentality is ridiculous. Everyone says/does things they regret. If they grow and learn from it - move on. When dealing with cross-culture issues, I believe it better to be quick to forgive, rather than quick to cancel.

Sarah Padbury

Truthfully the public at this point are trying everything they can to discredit him while conveniently overlooking the initial blackface incident - which no one has issued an apology for. In fact a few days later others students proceeded to do blackface while tagging Sam! All this in addition to a petition calling for his deportation; not to mention the vile racist comments being left on his Instagram account - some of which I read and was shocked! Also please bear in mind he has even issued an apology. The sad irony of being met with more racism when you call it out. The Korean public are really making a “leap” at this point while turning a blind to the racism and vitriol Sam is receiving. A black man pointed out blackface is wrong and suddenly he is the one bearing the brunt of the majority of criticism. People can deflect all they want but at the end of the day the way this situation has panned out is very telling of how people react when being called out for their racist behaviour. It’s starting to feel like a smear campaign and I actually feel sorry for him knowing that he might not have very much support in Korea in regards to all the racial vitriol he’s receiving.

Fransisca

It's a Witch Hunt. Now they are after Sam and nit picking everything they could find to create a reason to cancel or maybe oust him because ha called them out for racism, not that they really do care about sexual harassment. This is just so sad and disappointing, and i feel like this wouldn't be the last thing they will pull against him. This hateful netizens needs to be aware that the world is watching South Korea and on how this will go, there will always be repercussions. Their hate will be their fate.

Binggay

aight this is BS 🙄.... y’all are taking the saying WAY too seriously. It's just a joke! 😂 It's something black people say to each other and sometimes our non black friends in numerous way. We as black people like to joke and roast each other. It's a part of OUR culture. This was an "inside" joke toward Sam that was meant as a compliment. Period

Sydney Hill

And this tantrum is only creating more hypocrisy. If we're going to talk about how inappropriate "Once you go Black, you never go back" can be, then we need to discuss 백마 타다/흑마 타다 as well, but I bet no one's trying to do that.

Myisha Renee

These people are so busy defending their racism to save face...wouldn't it be better to save face by...idk...not doing racist things? Or, even better, acknowledging the misstep in judgment and reflecting on how to grow? If you don't want to be called out as racist, if you don't want to face the shame that comes will that, then how about just not presenting yourself as such? This could've been a great moment in coming across the table and having an important conversation, but nope. People just love their racism/colorism/prejudices. And I'd just like to point out that there is VERY CLEARLY a comment in between the original comment and Sam's response that is blurred out. The tag in Sam's response was also blurred out, so unless someone has an unedited photo, who actually knows whether he was responding to the original comment or the comment in between? That's probably too much thinking for the hate-mongers, though. Whatever *shrugs*

Myisha Renee

As Sam was standing next to a young beautiful woman the comment ANOTHER user made does appear to be a sexual innuendo, those saying it wasn't used in that context are kidding themselves. Sam is totally aware of that context and replied with "preach" in the context of (say it louder)  and or (affirming or agreeing). While it is probably a tacky and inappropriate thing to agree with (especially considering he works with her) it may be a stretch to say he is actually sexually harassing the young lady. However, he also KNOWS why the Korean population would make that leap, as he work and lives there in the public eye he is aware of the repercussions of those kind of comments.
