I am the Main Character? No Thanks! (Volume 3): Chapter 4

Unknown Place, Unknown Time.

Inside a luxurious palace filled with all kinds of luxuries, a large group of humanoid beings talked amongst themselves as their ruler stared at the representative of a certain force of his kingdom kneeling before him.

“And your master is sure of this?”

“Yes, my king. Master has performed the calculations more than a few dozen times but still arrived at the same conclusion. Someone on the other side has messed with the Dao of Time and Space, causing the flow of time to become turbulent.”

The disciple of the Temple of Dao looked up at his king with fervor in his eyes.

“If we want to succeed in our mission, we must move as soon as possible. That was what my Master told me, my king.”

The humanoid beings known as the Asura within their home continent, and as the Outsiders on the only other continent of the planet, fell silent at those words as their King leaned back on his throne.

Looking out of the palace’s windows, the King contemplated the latest information, as if asking the crimson skies above for an answer.

Finally, after weighing the pros and cons of his plan, he nodded towards the disciple, making the boy and the rest of the Asura even more excited.

“In that case, we will move our plan forward. Send the word to your master. Tell him to make the preparations for opening the ancient portal from his Temple while my forces open a few other portals from the borders of their continent.”

“At once! My king!”

The disciple quickly left the palace, leaving behind the king, who turned to another Asura.

“General Tao.”

“I am here, my king.”

“Prepare our forces. Once the preparations are complete, you know what to do.”

“Of course! My king. However, forgive this one for overstepping his bounds. Still, I need to remind the king that the season of storms is upon us and will probably be worse than last year, cutting off our Teleportation formations and creating space-time instabilities.”

“I know, General. You don’t have to worry about that and just complete your task. I already have a plan in motion to shield our formations.”

“Understood.”

Once the general left the palace, the rest of the people slowly trickled out as well, leaving the king behind, who sighed heavily before he flew into the air, looking at the lands that his family had ruled for countless generations.

The crimson skies above the continent shed a sinister glow on the lands below, dying them crimson. The vegetation and fauna of the continent adapted to this strange condition and turbulent Qi, becoming strange creatures that the humans would fail to even recognize.

The native of this continent, the Asura, were also beings born due to the strangeness of their continent.

With red skin, solid black eyes, some of them with purer bloodlines even having two horns on their forehead and long black hair, they were the very definition of a demon from the ancient myths of the human race.

But who would know outside this continent that these people were no different than Humans? That the majority of them were just ordinary people looking to lead their lives in peace while their king and his forces tried their best to save their people from their inevitable doom?

“Oh, Heavens, why must you punish us so? Why do you torture our people in such a way?”

“Why have you forsaken us?”

The whispers of the king were met with nothing but the eerie howling of the wind, like it always did, making the old king once again sigh in disappointment.

Suddenly, his senses picked up an approaching storm from the east, heading straight for the his capital.

It’s might ripping apart anything that stood in its way, while the chaotic Dao of space and time it held within reduced everything to nothingness, leaving behind blackened and decaying land behind it.

However, the king was not concerned with it.

After all, his people had gotten used to these space storms in the thousands of years they had existed on this continent.

Long ago, it is believed that this continent was no different than the one that the Humans reside on. With lush green flora spread everywhere, and beautiful fauna that captured the imagination. With clear blue skies and fresh running water, with clear springs and heavenly treasures, it was a paradise.

However, that was in the past.

After the Heavenly Way of their continent was broken and the natural laws fell into chaos, leading to the birth of these special storms and anomalous situations across their continent, this continent has now become a place where only the strong live and the weak die.

A situation that the king’s family had been trying to resolve for countless generations, yet only managed to find a way for their people to escape this place through their mastery of Space and Time, especially since the entire continent is now surrounded by a colossal Space storm that separates the continent from the rest of the planet.

With a wave of his hand, the defensive formation across the capital rose from its slumber, containing the Dao of Space within itself just like the storm.

The formation which manipulated the gravity around the capital allowed it to bend space itself to make the storm pass around the capital, allowing it to remain intact.

Once the storm went away, the king sighed in relief and turned back to look at his people.

“It won’t be long now. Soon, I will conquer the other side, just like our ancestors planned, and create a paradise for all of you. Just hold on for a little bit longer.”

“I swear on my name and that of my family, I will make sure that our species does not die in this place that is our birthland but has forsaken us, just like the Heavens have.”

With his vow whispered into the wind, destined to be heard by no one, the king headed back towards his palace to get some rest.

“I do wonder who was foolish enough to mess with the Dao of Time? Space is relatively easy to manipulate and is of little consequence, but messing with time? That is suicidal at best, and apocalyptic at worst.”

Shaking his head to get rid of those thoughts, the king went back home.

‘I guess I will find out when we get there. Hopefully, whoever they are, don’t make the same mistake as our ancestors did. I don’t want to see another paradise reduced to a danger-filled wasteland like our own because those fools messed with Time and broke the Heavenly Dao.’

Author notes: Sorry for the late update. I've been going around in circles with this volume of the novel and been feeling really frustrated with how hard I find kingdom building to be so it is taking a lot of time for me to write even a single chapter for this story.

Combined with how hectic this week has been for me IRL, things are looking pretty bleak for my free time.

Anyways, hope you enjoyed the chapter.
